Why do a lot of these coins have a slash on the obverse (owl)???

@Jason Hoffpauir It is called a test cut. It was done by bankers in antiquity to make sure the coins were pure silver. Very common among this type of coin. They did it on the reverse as to not anger or displease the goddess Athena. The first coins 1-9 or so have examples with no test cut. Examples with no test cut are usually a bit more expensive than those with test cuts.
