Another coin is mentioned on next monday's new episode of "Pawn Stars" Anyone want to place bets on if it's fake?
I dunno, Rick bought a nice St. Gaudins for over 1k once, I thought for sure he was going to low ball her, but he didn't. It will be interesting to see just what this guy brings in, there are lots of replicas of this Paquet design.
Maw the Shelby was way better than the fabrege. He also has bought all those large size notes for 8500
Definitely the show is fake. The customers may be genuine customers but I guarantee you they are not filmed their first time in the store. After someone walks in with something interesting I'm sure a decision is made to include them in the show and they are told to come back in "so we can film it".
Excuse me but where does it say anything about it being a Paquet design? Well what would you expect? You can't expect them to film EVERY person who came in just in case they had something interesting. And if they did they might run the risk of accidently broadcasting someone they didn't have a signed waiver of permission for and getting sued. So naturally they find out what they have and if it is intersting they get permission to film it for an episode. I may not be strictly completely real, but it is a lot more real than most any of the other so called "reality" shows.
What cracked me up is the guy said it had minimal wear on it. MS coins have 0 wear. Did I hear him incorrectly?
I heard that too. But the fact is that market grading allows for some light circulation wear on lower-grade MS coins that have good eye appeal (e.g., good luster). What used to be an AU-55 can now be an MS-61 or 62. But, like you, I was somewhat surprised when he said in the same breath "minimal wear" and "MS-63".
that guy gets some of the coolest items. you also have to realize that for every cool item that he gets he declines about a million bad items. depends on the pawn shop. with this shop being in las vegas he would need a lot of cash on hand or access to a lot of cash. at a quick notice. not all pawn shops are going to have cash like this on hand.
i love the pawn stars show...ever since i found out about the show i've been dying to go to see the coin section in there store.
The one that killed me was when the lady brought in the Faberagae Broach and wanted $2000 for it, rick didn't need an expert for this one aqnd said he wouldn't give her the $2000, but how bout $15,000. Come on!!!! Unless he is the Mother Theresa of all pawn brokers, this would not happen!!!
While I tend to agree with the seedier type pawn stores. I kind of feel that is like saying all coin dealers are crooks. I am sure a lot of dealers would offer fare prices if someone brought in a coin that they did not know anything about.
someone just got taken! $34k makes no sense for any of the 61 20's. If it is a 61P then it is worth 10-15k in 63, and if it is a 61S then it would be equal to the finest known specimen which is currently certified MS63 by PCGS, and the 61 Paquet is a great rarity forth 7 figures in MS while the 61S Paquet is unknown in MS and worth 150k or so in AU58. I can only assume that the coin is a 61S and that the "expert" overgraded it or it is a 61P and they looked up the wrong coin and paid the 61S price for it. Regardless, someone lost a bunch of money...
On the show the reverse had an S on it. Although i am not an expert on gold coins at all i think that they could get 40K out of that if it does grade 63. Imo. I know red book prices are out of the park on things they still quote this coin at 48K i do believe
