This is more than a gripe than anything, and I appolgize ahead of time, so if you don't want to hear someone ***** and complain then click off now.

I must say that the Canadian mint has produced some wonderful coins this year. I don't own many Canadian coins, but I have bought a few sets from last year and this year. I only buy sets that I am in love with and this in itself justifies the price I pay. (We'll get to more on this later) Then the CRM came out with their 2010 Piedfort Reverse proof maple leaf collection. Folks, let me just say that if you dont like these coins then you are crazy. The maple leaf design is a ok design in my book, but in reverse proof it is stunning, then to top that off they made it a Piedfort coin. If you never held a Piedfort coin then you are missing out. It is just a solid hunk of a coin with some big muscles. I own several of them and love every one of them too. The set contains two coins. The silver coin is 1 oz pure silver and the gold coin is 1/5 oz of pure gold. This is where the gripe comes in....the set is going for $679!!!!!!!

Now as US coin collection, we tend to gripe on how expensive the US mint is, but the Canadian Mint makes the US mint look like idiots because they should be charging a lot more! They are taking roughly $270 worth of raw materials and turning them for over a $400 profit. Feel bad about what you said about the US mint?>>>>>Well let me break this down even further>>>> people are complaining about the 35% premium the US mint is charging their customers, well the Canadian mint is charging nearly a 60% premium! WOW! And we thought we had it bad! Is my math wrong? Please tell me so. Now as a business person, I understand that the premium charged covers production costs as well as marketing, advertising and other costs not seen by the consumer. But at 60%, they should more than very well cover their costs unless they are doing something wrong, which in this case would make the US mint look like geniuses!

A point that I must also point out is that the Canadian mint's low mintages may also drive these prices up, because unlike the US mint which mints hundreds of thousands of coins to cover their costs, the Canadian mint is only making 10 thousand or 5 thousand or in this case, only 3 thousand gold and 9 thousand silver, all of which is needed to cover their costs.

Getting back to the point I made earlier>>>>> When I buy coins from the Canadian Mint, British Mint or Austrailian Mint, I know I am going to pay a lot more for them than my US coins so this is why I must know in my heart that I am going to love the coins I buy no matter what they are worth in the end. This is what is driving me crazy about this set is because I absolutely love it, but we are not talking about 100 or 200 hundred dollars. After postage, we will be up around $700.

Who knows? The set might turn out to be a modern rarity and double your investment! Are you ready to roll the dice>>>>>>I am thinking about it. :bangg:

These have been in circulation for a couple of weeks and rolls of them are readily accessible from the banks. The mint offer would only be a benefit for those collectors in isolated areas or outside of the country.
