Aloha, I was looking at MPL's and found this nice 1910 in PF 65. All that intense toning made me a little suspicious.... http://cgi.ebay.com/1910-PCGS-PR65R...70?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item27b38b7632 Its a nice coin but I'm not so sure if this is NT or AT. Thanks!
Caviot Emptar That listing does not look right to me. First of all, what are you buying the coin pictured or the PCGS coin shown in the listing. The one pictured looks AT. Also the current book value is only $2,500 for the pcgs coin. Under e-bay rules, if a person is selling a certified coin they must post this information including the certificaton number. If they are using a PCGS pictured coin and not selling it then the listing violates fee-bay policies. Either way, it's way too overpriced STAY AWAY:thumb:
The listing meets all of Ebay's reqirements....I have no clue what sgtbigred is talking about but assume he does not sell on Ebay??? The seller has cropped shots of the coin and also shows the coin in the slab which has the cert number right on it. That coin is 100% NT....toning like that is very common on matte proof lincolns as are shades of greens and shades of blues. If anyone thinks they can pick up a nicely toned coin like this one for PCGS guide then they need to collect untoned specimens.....toned coins can and do sell for many multiples of guide every single day of the week so if the guide is $2500...then $3000 may seem steep to some but it is not over priced in today's market. Nice coins are not cheap and if you are a slave to price guides then you will rarely be able to purchase nicely toned or pq coins....but we can all get lucky at times.
Chris (RCtoners) is a member of the TCCS and has a very good eye for toned coins. His photography is also very good. Nothing about that coin says AT to me. In fact, when I first saw the photo, I though it was one of Charmy's gems photographed by Todd.
HUH? If "this information" means the current book values (someday someone is going to tell me which book to get THE book value from), you are mistaken. If you mean the certification number, I can see it plane as day. He has 2 pictures of the same coin. What does "using a PCGS pictured coin" mean?
Never assume, you know what that means. Well for starters I am a dealer on e-bay as well as other auction sites. Second: why doesn't he post the photo of the actual coin they are recieving i.e. the encapsulated coin. As to the value, well we all know that prices realilzed are determined by recent auction prices and population. So here are some facts; This type of coin, same grade, recently sold for $1,496 Mar 2010 @ Fort Worth auction. 2 PR66RB sold for $3,450 each at Boston and Milwaukee. Now I realize there are some people who are into toned coins, and perhaps some may command a higher price, but still the question remains, WHY DID HE NOT POST A PHOTO OF THE ACTUAL COIN BEING OFFERED IN THE MAIN TITLE!!! as do thousands of other long time dealers on e-bay.
There are many books that reference prices and as to which one most dealers use depends on the dealer. Example: This same coin referenced 1910 PR65 RB shows the following prices PCGS: $2,500 Numismedia Fair market value: $1,720 (price for raw coin) Official Blue Book 2010: for raw 1910 Matte Proof 63 $150 So as illustrated, what is a fair value, whatever one can get. As to toned coins, yes they do fetch more but only if toned nicely. Recently a PR64RB sold for $1,092.50 from Heritage auctions (Aug 11, 2010, floor bid Lot #1910)
Because those are great pictures of the coin he is selling and that IS THE coin he is selling in "the main title". Secondly, he did post the photo of the actual coin they are receiving i.e. the encapsulated coin. It is picture #2 on his blowups.
IMHO, a great NT coin! There are only 2 photos, the front/back, and the slab. Looks to be as advertised and all above board. Don't know what sgtbigred is seeing that I'm not?
sgtbigred "Well for starters I am a dealer on e-bay as well as other auction sites. Second: why doesn't he post the photo of the actual coin they are recieving i.e. the encapsulated coin. The images of the coin shown are the coin you would recieve if you purchased the coin, all three images are of the SAME coin the obverse and reverse side by side are simply blown up to give a person a closer look at the coin. This coin came to be roughly a year ago VIA brian wagner, previously owned by robec until he upgraded his 1910, the pcgs price guide shows the coin listed at 2500.00 and if you go ahead and go through heritage realized prices you will clearly see that PQ matte proofs with nice ORIGINAL color always sell for far more. If you would like a list of these matte proofs just let me know and I will list them all out for you. I have an almost complete set of matte proofs that are currently for sale all with fantastic color, I have been searching out nice ORIGINAL matte proofs for a long time now and have gone to EVERY major coin show in the country over the past couple of years to find them. You can find the rest of my matte proofs currently on the pcgs registry. My 1914 came to me by way of ANGLE DEE'S and is also simply stunning as far as color goes. The 1910 matte proof being discussed here is being sold for exactly what I paid for it, after ebay fees I will end up with EXACTLY what I paid for it, I am not trying to flip this coins to make a couple of bucks, I searched for a very long time looking for nice matte proofs and this 1910 is simply stunning and 100% problem free, you can speak with brian wagner or robec regarding this coin and they can both verify the coin looks JUST like the images. If you look at my 1909 matte proof it has similar color to this 1910 however my 1909 matte proof is the only verified albrecht 3 obverse with the newly discovered reverse die. This 1910 like all my other matte proofs are not some AT garbage that are being sold to make a quick buck. Alot of time and money has gone into finding what I and several others felt are very PQ matte proofs with amazing ORIGINAL surfaces and color. Matte proofs were originaly issued wraped in tissue paper and it is very common to find them with nice color however it is not common to find them spot free like the 1910 in the ebay listing. If you want I can get you a list of garbage matte proofs that you can purchase via heritage for very cheap if thats the kind of coin you look for however my coins are not those. On another note I HAVE NEVER EVER listed a coin for sale with a photograph other then the coin for sale. I take great pride in my coin images and I take alot of time to persue true and accurate photos. I see that you are in florida, I am located in key largo and if you would like I would be happy to meet you somewhere and we can compare the three images in the ebay listing to the coin in hand once you realize that you were 100% incorrect about the images being from another coin all that I ask is that you simply admit your statements were 100% inccorect.
Well I went back and looked at your other auctions and I would like to say.... I want that 2 cent piece!! 1872 NGC PF66RB Two Cent Piece Monster Rainbow Toned Very nice indeed. :thumb:
I am not sure if I have seen this in person or not but nothing says AT to me. Chris has a nice MPL set and doubt he would buy and AT one.
Thank you all for the replies. This one really caught my eye, it is one gorgeous Mattie. And Rctoners, may I view your list of Matties for sale? I am trying to locate as many dealers as possible that carries them besides coin shows. I can handle the shows. Eagle Eye Rare coins, Heritage, and The Penny Lady all carry them. I have no idea how scarce they are when it comes to coin shows, as I've never been to one. (Not alot of coin shows in Hawaii.....:rollling Thanks!
WOW - nice batch of coins you have up for sale RC. Some very nice ones - love the 1869 and 1872 IHC's.
RC, you got a nice coin and you're doing nothing wrong. There is nothing wrong with that listing. Someone just might be thinking they are a dealer when in fact know very little in pricing of a toned coin. Great pictures, beautiful coin and fair price. To the OP, I recommend you STAY AWAY from "the other dealer" (sgtbigred)
