Came across these today while searching a strap. Pretty neat. Also found a repeater in the same strap (2006 B 91759175 I). :smile

Very interesting. Definitely something to hang onto in my book.

I agree with krispy on this one. Overinking is always a premium, but I've never seen it on strictly the seals. I would hold onto it to see what it could go up to. Nice find!

how common is this type of over inking? As i have recently read, it can command a premium so i have to assume its not common enough and collected enough to produce the premium. But why is it rare enough that folks will pay over face?
*Is it because the BEP prevents enough of over inked notes from entering circulation and thus the few that make it, command a premium when found?
*Is it because the current technology in use by the BEP (dont they use optical scanners on every sheet that looks at every note?) is unable to 'spot' these occurances of over inking, and thus they all escape?
*Or does the BEP not care about such minor occurances of over inking, and lets any escape, and the rarity of finding such notes to create the premium is only because few actually look for them to satisfy the demand?
*a mix of any of the above

Not meaning to dimminish those who collect these types of notes, i just never really knew they would fetch a premium until recently.

I'm not suggesting there's a worthy premium for these myself. I wouldn't pay over face for this inking 'error' if it's even able to be called a true error. If I found one, I'd keep it if the note were AU or better.

I guess this is considered "minor overinking." At what point would it be "major?" What if the whole seal was blacked out due to overinking?

I am thinking the same as Krispy on this. I prob wouldn't pay a premium for these but will definitely keep for my collection. Honestly, I don't know how rare these are though.

Take a stroll through Heritage and look up the inking errors..there you will learn quite a bit.

Maybe it's just me, but when you have to pull out a magnifing glass to find an error on a note, it's novel, it's cool, and maybe even a keeper, but not worth more than face to me. I like the errors that you can see from across the room, like this one for example.....

I generally agree. It didn't take a magnifying glass to notice these overinks though.

A couple of months ago I bought several notes, three were graded and marked as "Minor Error - Overinking of District Seal". The notes were very inexpensive. From what I recall they were about $6 or $7 each (slabbled) but still neat to have in my collection.
