I have this quarter which has a ring around it but when looking under magnification I notice another date stamped into George's neck. What do you guys think?

Sorry about pics but still haven't found my camera charger. iPhone thru microscope.

Now I'm wondering. Is that extra date raised or incuse?

BTW, those pics aren't bad at all.

The coin is kind of cupped, and looks like from something with a smaller diameter.

Someone hammered another coin into it. It's damaged.

What puzzles me is the date is flipped over and if another coin was mashed into it the date would be the same direction. At least that's what I think.

Actually if you visualize it, turning one coin upside down(so to speak) would invert the date and impress it mirror-image on the other coin. Take a coin and press it into some silly-putty or something and you'll see what I mean.

Don't most coins have the date at the bottom? The "1949" looks like it would be at the top of the coin it came from.

I guess if it was from a nickel. I guess but that could be the only coin I could think of.

Exactly. I'd say it was definitely a nickel. As a matter of fact, I bet if you took a nickel it would fit perfectly within the indented area of the quarter.

Yep but strange that nothing but the date transferred and nothing else. Definitely the size of a nickel.
