Is there a "proper" way to label these? I'm assuming the coin grade and country goes on it somewhere, but other than that? Does the info go on the top, bottom, or back of the card? Thanks!
On the front: top left corner: date and mint mark. Top right corner: comments or grade. Bottom left corner: comments or grade. Bottom right corner: price or grade. On the back: Bottom left or right corner: inventory #.
There's a protocol for this? I always assumed it was personal preference as to what went where and how much information you wish to render.
I'm assuming the country of the coin's origin falls under the "comments or grade" section, then. Thanks for the help!
It all depends what color ink pen you use for labeling or if you use more than one color of ink. Some will argue that roller ball pens should only be used and to entirely avoid felt tip and fountain pens to prevent damaging the coins if the pen leaks while writing. I personally prefer to use black ink Sanford® Uni-Ball® Roller™ Micro 0.5mm point pens.
Since I only focus on Lincolns. I prefer the date and grade upper right hand corner. I use Paper Mate Blue Medium ball point for Circulated coins. Red for Uncirculated - Black for oddities, errors, ungradable etc..
Oh well, guess I have about ten thousand or more 2 x 2 to do over again. Na, to me it is a personal preference and beside who care what on my cardboard 2 x 2? Like Krispy, I do use a roller ball pen, because other types seem to smear.
As pens go, I love using a super fine tip sharpie to mark mine. You have to be careful of smudging, but once dry, it is bold and permanent. I would agree with the notation coinmaster1 gave. I put country of origin in the upper right front on all foreign, but not US coins.
I don't write anything on my 2x2's, I just leave em' blank--in my opinion it looks better. My coin pages are organized by country, then by denomination. They are not in order by date but i'm not too picky.
Geez.... I knew I was missing something! Always doing something wrong............. I use a Pilot G2 .05 gel pen , they use beautiful smooth writing, just got to give them a couple seconds to dry before handling or you will smudge them, after dry the ink will not fade or smudge. I have also used a .05 acid free archival quality pen that I used to love, just can't get them anymore. I write the country in the top left on foriegn coin nothing on the US coins and the date and mintmark on the top right then put them in numerical order by date and store them in flip boxes standing up that way I can leaf through them quickly to find what I want.lol
I'm right in this situation... My handwriting %*$*@@!#@*& so I want to use labels on 2x2s I'd like to use the computer for this. Any suggestions on label type and program? Silvercedar I'm not opposed to a labelmaker if I need to... what do you use?
I believe my Coin manage program does that with a built in application. Never used it, but it would be a nice feature since I have my whole inventory in it.
I always put the year I bought the coin and the price I paid for it as a reminder if I did well or bad..........
