So here is another interesting thought. How ironic is it that I feel the need to block out this screen name so that I am protected from someone on here finding away to mess with my feedback? It is ironic because of all the nasty things I have read regarding comments about eBay. Yet, I don't fear interacting with anyone on eBay but I do here, enough to hide my s/n So where is the true sleaziness?

hahaha thanks ! what is the ASCII keystroke for that? What keys can you type with out going to the smiley page?

Okay - I got around to this package tonight. Coincidentally, for all you who are trying to figure out how to ship. This guy has it figured out and I thought I would share with all you sellers..

First. He lists his BU wheaties listings at 1.00 shipping - each additional coin 50% off - 3 coins were on one listing. total for 6 coins charged. $2.50 on roughly $60 value. Won at auction Sunday night - shipped Monday arrived Thursday.

Shipped in regular envelope with corrugated SafeTmailer with full page Packing slip and 2 coupons one for half gallon of Grape juice and one for a pound of rice! lol - now there is an attention getting bonus! Delivery confirmation - first class for 4 oz with delivery confirmation through PAyPal. his mailing hard cost. $1.58 Package actually weighed 2.2 oz

So all you "think you know it all" here is something you can learn to be better at and pass the savings onto your buyers, they will appreciate it. I know I do, I just went back to check his other listings and put bids in several more coins.

What's ironic is you are worried about people manipulating your feedback, all the while you are telling us if someone doesn't offer free shipping you remove stars from their shipping stats...IMO the only reason you don't fear interacting on ebay is because people don't know when you bid that if they don't offer free shipping they only get 4 stars max for shipping...on top of that the several people here stated they would block you from their auctions if they knew you SN. You shouldn't feel threatened by us, we're the ones saying you are being too harsh with the deduction of stars.

Strictly coin related in relation to a singular listing. I do not remove stars! hahahaha they start with Zero. I love how you guys twist things around to meet your own eBay ethics.

    For the umpteenth time.

I reward those who ship for free the highest rating ,

I reward those who ship a coin for up to $3 the next highest rating

For those who charge more than $3 depends on how I feel that day. I might not click any stars, I might click 3 or more!

For those who don't combine ship and I remember that....

I should add. I don't leave feedback until a day or two before it expires. (60 days) There is no reason for me to want to encourage others to bid against me by leaving positive feedback :hail:

How would they lose money if the sellers say that people should count the shipping as part of the total, what does it mater to sellers if they are getting $5 for the coin and $1 shipping vs 3$ for the coin and $3 shipping it still works out to $6??

Its not extortion, The feedback is for me to rate the seller and if the seller trys to force me to pay 3x shipping cost i look at that as a negative experience

If the seller is one of those rare cases then they should think about that when setting the minimum bid.

Im saying that one should not even have to read the shipping policy unless they are in New Zealand or something because they should be able to assume that the shipping is based on the Ebay premise that shipping is for the cost of shipping and matreals and should be based around that.

I don't understand your point here. I am also one of those people who never go to the post office. In fact, the only reason I have gone to the post office in the last 3 years is to send items sold on ebay, and I should point out that I pass my post office on the way out of my neighborhood.

But what does setting the minimum bid have to do with shipping costs? These are two totally unrelated issues, one dealing with fixed costs and one dealing with auction theory.

What is wrong with me charging $3 for shipping when my actual shipping costs will likely be more then $3.

Thanks for posting this. I think we are both on the same page in general here. I want to be a sucsessful seller on ebay, and am very interested in figuring out how to A) lower my shipping costs and B) be able to determine accuratly my shipping costs before I ship it. I am having problems with shipping in general, and your post is very informative.

My issue is if my actual shipping costs is $3, the fact that someone else may be able to ship it cheaper does not make my cost unreasonable.

Just report the seller when they are doing this. I usually do not search a whole lot. Enough people report a seller like this then ebay might do something. To me this hurts ebay sellers more than ebay. I reported this one - nothing might happen, but I tried.

If someone's not going to pick it up directly from me (a logistical nightmare), I offer $10 off on all coins that I have the convenience of shipping. That's why sellers with Free Shipping get only 2 stars from me.

Nothing wrong with charging $3 if its in a padded envelope its the people that charge $5+ and the people that charge $3 and it comes flapping around in a normal envelope with a .44 cent stamp on it..

Ok, so I can agree that $3 would be a bit much if it is a single low-cost coin in an envelope, but you people are not diferentiating between different coins. I have sold coins worth up to $1500 on ebay, which requires a lot to ship. First it has to be a sturdy box and well packed, plus it needs a lot of insurance. Of course I never charge the full amount because in those cases it is fair to split it a bit. I normally charge about $15 to ship those. I don't think it is ever fair to penalize someone for reimbursing their shipping cost though.

Any auction I put up I charge exactly $6 for shipping. I buy the mailer, I ship the mailer, it has insurance on it and signature confirmation, now depending on where I ship it that can run as low as $4.90 or so or has been as high as $6.44. So I figure on a nice break even point overall. I don't do volume business and the coins I sell I use to build my own collection so I don't have the luxury of eating the shipping cost that volume dealers have.
