If the guy threatens the non payment i would pay just to give him the negative feedback and i don't think many sellers given the choice would take multiple negative feedbacks vs just letting the seller go and some case like this http://cgi.ebay.com/2006-PCGS-SILVER-AMERICAN-EAGLE-MS69-FIRST-STRIKE-/230519900555?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item35ac0 e898b i don't think the buyer would have to go through with it anyway.
guess it depends what you collect but if i was told it'd cost $3 to ship a coin i'd be happy. then again being a heritage legacy member most of my shipping is free, and the dealers i buy from charge $0 too... don't buy junk then? lol
And I see it as many people take advantage of sellers by forcing them to lower their shipping to a point of loosing money. WOW, that sounds like extortion to me from the person that is complaining about about a fair ebay auction with a posted shipping cost that is only 3 bucks. I am one of those persons. I go maybe every other month at best. And with that logic the pizza delivery guy should not get a tip because he was already delivering a pizza to your home. He stated that he asked AFTER he committed to a contractual obligation. That's the whole point. Don't bid if you don't like the shipping. Or dont bid if you don't like the person's name. Or the coin or whatever...it's your choice and money.
I still like my idea best. If the seller doesn't want to be reasonable and combine shipping saving us both time and money. Then Why should I be reasonable and allow him to ship all the items in one shipment. Who here is being unreasonable? I mean what kind of seller is this? Is this a good seller? Not having a combined shipping policy??? isn't that the same as not photographing a defect? Error and omission? Question now is, how do I diplomatically tell him then to abide by his terms and ship every item individually. OH! I know... I could tell him that I would like to do more business with him in the future but in since it is apparent that he is not appreciative of all the business I gave him and the subsequent time savings of shipping 15 listings to one location...., then I feel obligated to leave 15 neutral comments spread over the next eight weeks advising other future buyers. Or I pay for the 15 items separately, like pay for one in the morning and the other late at night. OR Don't pay at all and let all the transactions go to dispute as not paid due to excessive shipping charges. OR pay for them all separately a few minutes apart and then file a Paypal claim for 14 of those items as not received. Since tracking would likely only be on one of the items. Seller would have no way of proving that all the items were in one box.
I don't disagree with you. If you want to be a stickler he should ship them separate I guess. But his shipping was just 60 cents.
There aren't. If a seller doesn't have terms stated, then he is open to one of those situations where you are dead right or dead wrong. either way you are dead.
So what your saying is that if the buyer is a complete idiot and does not read the terms of the sale then the buyer should be absolved of all personal responsibility and that evil seller should be damned with negative feedback?
Yes, but just think how much money he is loosing driving to the post office every day for 60 cents, and the envelope costs and the stamps and the ink and the paper and the computer and the electric to run it and the payments for the roof over his office and his grocery bill and his vet bills and his kids tuition and the OMG alimony payments. lol and with such reasonable shipping on a singular item, I am sure he never imagined that someone would try to combine - now 16 items.. I wonder how many more he will let me buy before he wants payment. I am thinking this will be fun to keep escalating..
A bit crazy eh And what if that poor unknowing bidder bid way to much because he didn't read the description or the date of the coin that is clearly stated? lol
He would not need to drive separate days or trips just one time in different envelopes and stamps to complete the auction terms. But if you already know the problem with combining shipping and your intensifying it then I'd think you are doing wrong IMO. Why would you continue to push this knowing it's going to be an issue. And you think it's fun...yea it's the sellers fault in this lol right.
Absolutely! I just checked Ebay and there are tons of small cents auctions ending shortly. How was I to know they weren't all '55 doubled dies? After all, how can one possibly be expected to bother with reading things when there are only seconds left!!? Maybe I am seeing a political mirror here.
I'm sorry but this is getting ridiculous....how can you come close to comparing someone who wont combine .60 cents per coin shipping to deceiving someone by not photographing a coin to show its flaws....Even more, you are bidding on items just so you can cause this seller problems when he stated it was .60 cents per coin you buy....do you really not have better things to do with your time than to give someone a hard time over the internet? If you have sold things on ebay like you said you have you would understand the costs incurred by paypal and ebay fees....If you really want something for nothing go to the soup kitchen. To keep things in perspective, what if your father died and all you had to pay for his funeral was his coins you were trying to peddle off on ebay and some guy with nothing better to do with his time bid up all the coins and then wants to nickel and dime you to death crying about shipping, then tries to back out of the auction, or threatens bad feedback to get his way...snap out of it and look at the big picture, if 7.00$ in shipping for a handful of coins is the only problems you have in life you need to go out and live a little.
EyeEatWheaties, you can't hold it against the seller and give him 4/5 stars for charging high shipping costs. You should look before buying the coin. It makes NO sense to blame the seller if YOU agreed to the deal in the first place. You need to sit back and reflect on what you are doing to the sellers, less 5/5 stars means higher fees to list items which means even higher shipping costs for the buyers.
That's one thing that a lot of buyers don't understand about the "anonymous" star ratings. They do affect sellers' listing rankings as well as fees. Also it's horribly skewed. I think it's less than 2% bad ratings in any individual category that sellers must maintain. You do the math; a seller who sold 500 items in the past year could be damaged if just 12 or so of those buyers decided to give him bad ratings just because they didn't like what they agreed upon in the first place! Heaven forbid you only sell about a 100 items per year: then TWO people leaving bad ratings could damage you.
It is sad to see people saying they would downgrade a seller based on what they charge, I think you have to also mention how it is shipped. I have no problem paying $3 for a coin if it is in a bubble mailer and well sealed, I would have a small problem if it was in an 2x2/envelope and they charged $3. Now if I bought three items from the seller and there was no discount I would be a little annoyed if my $9 only got me a bubble mailer. As a seller I try to charge what it costs to ship, I just sent a $7 item off today where I charged $2 for shipping. I reused a bubble mailer and the cost was $1.75 to send, when I packed it up I taped a quarter inside the package. It sounds stupid but I want to make sure I am being fair. If It was a more expensive item or if I had to buy packing materials I wouldn't have done it. I have no problem with people charging a little for materials/printing/time but it shouldn't run $5-6 per package. The first time I bought on ebay (legos) I didn't know that sellers would combine shipping. I paid for the items and never asked for a total. When she shipped the items she slipped two crisp $2 bills in the package for the extra shipping that I had paid. I guess I would rather pass along this type of customer service then the "stick it to them" attitude some possess.
I have reflected on it plenty. Over 1500 purchases since November. I reward those sellers with outstanding performance with the highest rating. those with ok performance with ok ratings etc etc This particular seller has 4374 feedback score. By simply not having a combined shipping policy or by purposely omitting that he does not combine ship - he deceiving IMO. A seller with that amount of history knows better. I certainly do. I am construing that, as the same practice as purposely omitting flaws in a photographed item. Purposely omitting info in a listing. I think it is a very reasonable expectation to expect a combined shipping discount. I know I would be more than thrilled to have one buyer save me all the hassle by buying multiple items. My time is worth something to me. Shipping a bunch of items to one address....... do I really need to explain this? no.. it just says shipping for these particular coins is .60 -.75 no where does it say. per coin. uh.. furthermore, who am I giving a hard time too? I haven't contacted the seller for a final invoice, he still has a bunch of coins that don't close for days. he said to contact him when I was ready to check out. My only contact with him was to let him know that I was still waiting on some auctions to close and that I hadn't forgot. He openly told me what the shipping was going to be in an email. Oh I understand, oh too well. Initially, it was irritating - no flabbergasting to loose 10% plus in fees. But then I realized, I woke up. no where else could I sell the things I was selling so quickly and for so much money. I came to appreciate the service I use there and now know that I would pay more if I had too. No where else is the market and exposure that eBay provides. I achieved Silver Level in 60 days. Then I learned how to continue to improve my margins and make it win win for everyone involved. For example one thing you learn, is not to complain to your customers about your costs. Do you think they really care? lol What the hey. That is about the sorriest lamest example I have ever heard. If the seller can't separate personal from business then maybe he should figure out how to combine the two? Start the listing with; My father died and I need your help. Lets be honest here.... now All of the sudden, I am supposed to think that what? That every seller has some personal loss reason for not combining shipping huh?? whut??? just layover and give a seller free reign to be unreasonable when I am doing him a huge favor by being the high bidder on 18 coins? I mean, look at all the time he now has to express his grief over his loss... Instead of mailing 18 different address. Whats an hours time worth? $7.00 gosh.. now that he has all that extra time, he can list some more of his dads coins for me to buy! lol it was hypothetical to some extent. Whats interesting is he has quality coins that I want. I have bought a from him before. Naaaa.. I will continue to bid on all those I need to complete this one set and I will pay the fees, but not with out telling him what I think. I am pretty sure that he will reconsider once dialogue begins. Here again, I doubt he has had anyone buy the amount I am. Exactly! you get it! However a lot you people don't. Lets review: How accurate was the item description? crappy picture? Minimal Description? Why weren't you satisfied with the item escription? Item was not received Quality did not match item description Item was damaged Item was a counterfeit, replica, or an unauthorized copyWrong itemOtherHide How satisfied were you with the seller's communication? Depends on whether I get tracking - questions answered - I often leave this blank. How quickly did the seller ship the item? I export all my purchases into an Excel Workbook and check packages in daily. 2-3 days gets 5 stars. How reasonable were the shipping and handling charges? Free shipping gets 5 stars - up to $3 (depending on item - 4 stars. Charge more than $5 or don't combine ship. bear the the brunt of unreasonable REGARDLESS of whether I accepted the terms. These detailed seller ratings are anonymous, so please feel free to leave honest ratings about your buying experience. I am very fair to all sellers and rate accordingly to others who I buy from, I have over 1500 purchases since November 09. If there is one thing I currently know, it is eBay. I should add that one CT member so far has me figured out. Sent me a nice email, saying if that he hasn't heard from me in awhile and that any future purchases over $50 he will ship for free. now.. where is the little smiley thingy with the tongue sticking out? There are also several sellers who started out with me like this one, who now give me first refusals on stuff that comes along, who have sold me collections outside of eBay. etc etc.
