A Joke??!! I just bought 6 in an eBay pre-sale. Thank God for PayPal's buyer-protection.

Well Ladies First said earlier today that there were at least 618 orders between his orders, I'm sure Elaine will be buying about 100 of each unc and proof and there are about 4-5 other hard core FS collectors of this thread (who are not much active on CT right now) who will buy a few each. My guess, after the long holiday weekend, despite the recent rise in PoG, after first week of sales, we may see something between 1850 and 2200 sold.

the u.s. mint has the an option to increase the prices of FS, and AGB coins. if you use 9 closing. the average is $1,249.92. but if you use 10 closing. it will be more than $1,250.00.

    FS proof 1/2 oz- $804.00
    FS unc 1/2 oz- $791.00
AGB proof one ounce - $1,560.00

Did the new FS coin sell out yet Elaine? I'm sure the increase will improve sales.

I ordered a Buchanan FS this am, so they are not sold out, BUT there are TWO eBay auctions for the actual sets, not pre-orders, in the $950 range. This will allow the seller to cover his 9% eBay sales fee and the 2.3% PayPal fee and make $25 on the deal. It is probably somebody just showing off that he got their coin first. eBay currently isn't charging a listing fee.

Yes, showing off, or perhaps looking for a couple of uninformed buyers to get in a bidding war, which could occur given that bids place suggest they buyer(s) are willing to pay even more than the Mint mark up. Crazy stuff.

    Elaine, 40% is excellent!

In the first few days of availability, the United States Mint has recorded sales of 3,641 proof and 2,486 uncirculated James Buchanan's Liberty First Spouse Gold Coins. The combined sales of 6,127 represent slightly more than 40% of the 15,000 coin maximum mintage established for the offering.

Dave: This is an observation made (about this time last year) regarding an aspect of the Mint's sales figure reporting. It was made by another CT'er, yakpoo, who has not been active here for a while but he's a big FS collector/devotee who has analyzed the FS mintage numbers pretty much as thoroughly as one can up to the point they are at. I thought his comment was interesting and would be of assistance to you in light of current questions you had about this topic:

Got my "last" Liberty coins in the mail today, they look nice as a set, even though my pic isn't the best:

I said "last" Liberty because I did write my congressman to see if they can amend the First Spouse program to eliminate the Alice Paul coin and have a 5th Liberty design consistent with the rest of the program. Told them to do a separate commemorate of Alice Paul if she is truly deserving. In the alternative, I asked that they at least require the obverse of the Alice Paul coin to have a Liberty design such as an Indian Cent or the Morgan Dollar and leave the Alice Paul nonsense to the coins reverse. I doubt my effort will be successful, but if you agree with the above, you should contact your Congressman as that is the only thing we can really do. :)

Beautiful Liberty set. I noticed that there is a four coin case for sale on eBay made specifically for the Liberty set. I believe that they were asking $89 +/- which seemed expensive until one stops and considers that the set is valued in excess of $3k.

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking at but the US Mint did make 4-coin First Spouse cases in 2007 when the program first started. However, those cases only hold the capsule size used for the 2007 First Spouse coins. In 2008, they went to a larger diameter capsule and at that time pulled the 4-coin cases from their catalog. Now, the 4-coin cases would only work for the Liberty set if you were to find some extra 2007 capsules and transplant your 2008 and 2010 Liberty coins.

You can see the different size capsules above in my photo.

I just looked at eBay at the guy selling for $80+ does provide you with capsules so you can transplant your newer coin into the older sized capsules.

However, that price is extreme. The original price from the Mint for the boxes was maybe $15-$20. Also, I just saw the completed listings that 2 of these boxes sold for $27.95 each.

They also made a box to hold 4 uncirculated coins during 2007 and is made of the lighter wood to match the unc boxes.
