BS Tons of coins sell for less then that including shipping.. I think when the price of shipping is more or as much as the coin you have a problem. if the coin is only worth $5 stick it in a normal envelope for a dollar.
It is rather epidemic in all areas of eBay, as it can save large selling fees. Look that this one http://cgi.ebay.com/Faceting-Machin...233?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cf1512431 $3000 UPS shipping fees! Jim
I believe you suggested that Ebay should establish a policy that any coin selling for less than $10.00, the shipping should be free. Just as some individuals try to make up the difference on their sell price with high mailing fees, so will they with a higher starting price if your suggestion become Ebay policy. It is my opinion, that individuals when selling on Ebay, do not want lose money and of course they want to maximize their profit. Either way they will find a work around to make sure they do.
Jim - that violates eBay's policy on excessive shipping fees... if reported, this auction would be pulled.
Thank you! I love how it appears that eBay sellers who agree to abide by their policies, blatantly ignore eBay policies and openly whine about all their costs. Shipping and handling costs What you're not allowed to charge Related fees: Things like gas, mileage, time spent at a carrier, employee wages, or eBay and PayPal fees should not be added. This is why I say that an indication of a good seller with superior customer service, is the one who offers Free Shipping - all things equal - they will always get my business before another. Marketing 101 - Learn who your top selling competition is, study how they do it and figure out how to do it better. I don't imagine any of you use terapeak. The basics of selling is listed on their front page https://www.terapeak.com/?gclid=CIGn2qL35KMCFWBd5QodbGfClg Others of you, who are stuck in the cost plus mentality are loosing sight of the bigger picture in my opinion. Look to win the game, not score a hit.. Of course, this only applies if you are a regular seller who maintains and sells on a daily basis. 44 cents please Agreed.
i use to sell on ebay and you will always always have someone complaining about the shipping costs. even if you changed it down to $1.37 from the 3 dollars, then they would be complaining and telling you "well this other person only charges 44 cents". i think your idea of making it free shipping would be to your advantage and you could always put in the auction that there is an additionally fee for insurance. And please if you would change to free shipping, dont quit using delivery confirmation. it's for your protection.
It would appears that Ebay starting in Sept, will allow buyers to select what shipping method the want. http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/shippingservices.html
When Can We Buy? Thanks for your words of wisdom/experience, and please let us know when you're selling with implementation of your stated policies. We will be pleased to direct some of our customers to your auctions. :thumb:
I think that $3 and under is reasonable. A lot of the time I usually see $4, $5, and even $6 or more shipping costs on certain ebay auctions. If a person really wants that coin, then they will bid whatever price in order to obtain it and will not care that much about what the shipping cost is. That is the way that I see it. The ebay seller's purpose is to make money and eating the shipping costs on a coin or bar that is a low margin item to begin will hurt the ebay seller's bottom line.
Sheez...this is alot of posts about $3 in shipping. lol I am really getting into this conversation and am wondering how much your believe in shipping costs on ebay mirrors your political views. Say your in the "all coins under $10 should have free shipping". Well what is your policy on tax's, welfare, social security? Or the "don't bid if the shipping is to high" people...same question to you. I am thinking that these same believes we carry around in politics will mirror all through our lives and match in this discussion. So am I right?
Is that an eBay policy or just a good idea? Agreed that eBay and PayPal fees shouldn't be in S&H, but I would think that without charging shipping related fees there is literally no sense to using the word handling. Doesn't it imply charges for human activity? (I wonder if gas, mileage and labor is included in the price of a 44 cent shipping stamp?!)
Thanks! Soon - I am building/converting a room dedicated to this sickness they call coin collecting. I am still waiting on parts for the photography studio portion. Proper photos are huge.. ahhhhhviously. Seriously though, I have created a separate account for just coins - I rarely see any other coin sellers with their wifes handbags, antiques and accumulated garage sale items in "other items for sale" lol... I plan to start with slabbed coins that include free shipping at around 80% of posted values. Auctions will be later after I have some feedback established. it's the old "how do you get credit if you have no credit" thing. I may throw in some auctions of low grade semi-keys to get some interest rolling.
EBay can try to dictate what I'm "allowed" to charge for... but I could honestly care less. I know that It costs me about $3 for me to get you a package... sometimes more. If people want to complain about my shipping... or don't want to buy my coins because I charge what it costs me to get the package to you... then don't buy them. There are plenty of people who do without a problem.
Amen. Of course the problem is with those here who admit that they will buy them and then leave you low ratings even though THEY AGREED up front on your terms as a seller! I could care less if people refuse to bid on my items that don't have free shipping(that's certainly up to them), but it really gets under my skin when they have to have it enough that they'll bid anyway and then use Ebay's ridiculous unarbitrated rating system against you, or worse leave you negative feedback.
I think its the liberals who look to charge more for shipping against Ebays policy and its the conservatives who think you should follow the rules... and about my thoughts on free shipping now that i had time to think about it, now i think basic uninsured shipping should be free on ALL items since so many Ebay sellers Abused it. Sellers can put shipping cost and any other "fees" in the minimum bid.
I still don't understand this mentality. When is the last time you were blind-sided by shipping charges or forced to pay them without prior consent? Sellers may abuse Ebay by trying to make as much as they can in shipping fees in order to circumvent Ebay fees, but sellers have never "abused" a single buyer out there. Why? Because buyers know up front what the shipping charges are and they VOLUNTARILY accept the conditions the seller has set forth when they bid on the item. Don't like shipping charges? Use your free will then and don't bid, but don't ask Ebay to mandate that sellers ship 1st Class for free.
