I have an 1875S seated quarter. I only know it is a quarter due to the size, the words Quar Dol. are rubbed off. I would estimate condition at FR/AG, based on Photograde.

1875S does seem to be a better year/mintmark in Redbook.

Any ideas on value, or is a non-key coin that worn just worth melt?

    Thanks.

If QUAR. DOL. is worn off, it's probably in the Poor range. Best guess is a bit more than melt because of the date -- maybe $6-$10 or so.

Are you sure it isn't a twenty cent piece? 1875 s is the most common twenty cent date. I know there are ways to tell the difference, but you never know...

Check reeding on edge is quickest. 20 cent pieces aren't reeded. A quick trip on a scale would be a better way. Good point, I hadn't thought about the 20 cent piece. I would definitely check that out, as I think it would raise its value since they have high demand for type sets.

You can tell a twenty cent piece from a quarter by the direction the eagle is facing. On the twenty cent piece, the eagle faces right; on the quarter, it faces left.

I'll have to take a look when I get home, thanks to all that responded.
