I thought George Washington was opposed to the image of a siting president on money. I would also suspect that, should these designs be adopted (fat chance), they would need a lot of security features added. P.S., Anybody want to bet that Dowling Duncan is a democrat?
The vertical format is ok, but I'd hope those images aren't what they were seriously considering. A photo on a bill is cheesy at best. We need to get back to hand engraved designs with meaning and beauty, not photoshop art. Guy
I don't really want to see a change but here are my thoughts if it happened- I like the vertical format I like the different sizes for different denominations I like the topics on the 10 and 50 I don't like the topics/artwork on the other bills I don't like the single color covering the whole bill I don't like the idea of an actual picture on the bill
I have no issues with a vertical design either but the designs in the link posted are terrible. Look like a jr.high art class project. Im with Coleguy on the hand engraved images. I also think we should goto polymer.
Verticle, horizontal, sideways, etc. isn't a big issue I think. This design simply misses the whole point of what money can stand for. Instead it is used to give an undertone of political statement with a blanched, corporate feel with. Well, I for one feel that money should evoke much more. If you're interested, check this link out for more designs: http://richardsmith.posterous.com/?page=1 Most of these designs are crap. Some are done by kids, some by people with political statements, or those who just like to try to be funny. Some are obviously done by people who have no artistic design, but their mother keeps telling them they're good. But once in a while there is a design that pops up that actually gets the whole point of what a county's currency should be and there are a few that are actually quite nice.
As far as coinage and currency, my opinion is that no political figure should ever be portrayed until at least 100 years have passed. That way, history can be the judge of greatness and not whatever political party is in power.
Looks like monopoly money. Too much in my opinion, and I definitely don't hold my wallet vertically....the wallet may be vertical when I look for notes, but the notes are definitely still horizontal...
I actually really like the vertical design and the different sizes for different bills. I am not thrilled with the design, but I like the idea of putting the bill of rights on the currency, something to get people to know their rights...
Different sizes for different denominations is something that most countries in the world do. And that vertical design is in use in Switzerland for example. Putting the current president on the $1 note design, however ... Christian
I am curious as to why you feel our currency needs a design change. This is our History. Our History is Sacred and should not be so disregarded in any such proposed change.
Just because compared to most other countries; Australia, Canada, UK, etc..., we have been using the same type of currency for a long time...Like Australia has the "plastic" paper money and if is full of color, where as our dollar bill has been the same for quite some time now. I'm not complaining about US money, or our history, I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if the government followed suit and upgraded a bit.
God help us all.. whats happening to our Country! Where is the pride and passion of years gone by? Let's not let America slip away into mediocrity! I do not like this idea nor the so called designs. Designs should represent strength of our country and the highest levels of artisianship. RickieB
The federal reserve notes have stayed pretty much the same for the last 80 years, but our currency history does include a period where changes were frequent. Look at the national bank notes, of the silver certificates from 1870 to 1920. Tradition is a allusion of permanence. I will note that I am not a fan of these designs , but I like some of the ideas.
Exactly, it would be nice if instead of only redesigning the $100 they redesigned everything else as well to go along with it instead of doing each note every 10 years or so...I mean they just changed the back of the penny which has been the same since the late 50's, and the new quarter designs have been coming out, why not redesign the dollar bill as well?
