ok, Q: is it a good idea to buy coins under the "classifieds"? I would think its better thn e-bay but puting this out to you. I would enjoy any comments or experiences youve had. For example? would it be a good idea to start a thread that dvertizes I am interested in a common dat Morgan, slabbed, MS 63or64 with good toning? thanks for all input:yes:
Ive sold several coins on here in the past and have great experience with it. I have also bought a couple too. Nothing very high price like many listed but double digit coins. Again no problems. It doesnt have the ebay exposure but it sure beats paying ebay fees!
I think it would be pretty safe. Most of the members that advertise have been here for a while and some of them are long-term dealers. Besides, as a member posted on a contest thread also applies here...."Not sending you prize (product) to the winner (buyer) will result in everyone not liking you"
Welcome, and the 10 posts we require before buy/sell/trading does give us some experience with you. Posting a thread in the "introductions", is a good way to get started. Jim
I like to think of us here at CoinTalk as a close knit community, and while the peer pressure that comes with being part of a community might help in keeping people above board, I don't want anyone to have a false sense of security. We're as vulnerable to fraud here as on Ebay. Right now, our best protection may just be obscurity.
Wow, I was just about to say I'm crafting my first "Wanted" post to try it out...until I saw #13. Thanks for the heads-up, Chris!
Maybe if it was, say, 500-1000 posts to get into the classifieds, combined with being a member in good standing for 6 months, the classifieds would work better. As is, I can just sign up a new account, post in random threads 10 times, and viola! I'm in. As a rule of hand, I'd have no problem buying from someone here who appears to be knowledgable, smart, and respected. Their reputation, which often extends far beyond this forum, is at stake.
I got taken once, and as soon as one year is up everybody will know who the scoudrel is. Heres a hint, the person is from Canada...
