My avatar is a close-up scan of one of my '70's silver art bars. It is a scan of a "German Shepherd" silver art bar that was minted in 1973 by the Justice Mint. The avatar just means that silver is a DOG but I still love silver. I am being very humorous when I say that silver is a DOG.
That is so funny. My favorite rock band while growing up in Pasadena, CA was called "Reddi Killowatt". I never knew there was an actual animated character by that name. Terry Kilgore aka "TubeTramp"
My avatar is of an Un Peseta from Peru. It is a small common coin , but I admire the artistry. The Peruvian Peseta family of coins were only minted from 1880 to 1882. The coins minted in Lima are pretty common , but the coins minted at the Ayachucho mint are becoming hard to find at a reasonable price. The Peseta denominations were 1/2 reale , Un Peseta & Cinco Peseta. What this coin represents for me is the 1st purchase made by me on eBay that wasn't completely STUPID.
mine is a nike symbol that i used for a school project and i used it because it was the first picture that came up :| i will change it sometime though
Country Roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain momma Take me home, country roads.
When I was in high school in the early 60's, we used to go swimming at Dickerson Quarry (MD), and when we ran out of beer we would make a run into WV at Point of Rocks, MD and buy 3/2 beer. If I recall, you only had to be 16 to buy it in WV in those days. Chris
Nowadays the parents are partying with their children and I see it all the time. They figure if they're drinking at home they won't be out gettin into trouble. Geez, and I can't figure out why the HS drop out rate is so high here...
Mine is the medal I had minted to insert Sally Hemings into the First Spouse series, as she was the quadroon slave owned by Thomas Jefferson and widely believed to have been Jefferson’s "substitute for a wife"* while he served as President. * Quotation is from The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family by Annette Gordon-Reed
My parents let me drink when I hit 18, with the condition that I not be driving or going out in public, and be with them or my godparents. It's a good way around the archaic laws instituted by the federal government, which basically circumvent the constitution. Think about the drinking age... you can die for your country at 18, but you can't go to the bar and have a beer or buy a 6 pack? Anyways, I'll say my dad and I have a great relationship, partly due to beer.
Statistics show that alcohol, teenagers and cars don't mix. The death toll for teens who have been drinking outpaces any other age group by a huge margin. Chris
Regardless of what the statistics show, it's your constitutional freedom to drink if you're an adult. If congress wants to change that, then they should draft a constitutional amendment changing the age of legal responsibility, not attaching a condition to infrastructure funding that forces states to up the age limit to 21. “Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” - Benjamin Franklin Anyways, I think that research strengthens my point... 18-21 should be allowed to drink under parental supervision. Because, let's face it, 80% of people under the age of 21 are gonna drink anyway, so you might as well let them learn their limits and what they are and aren't capable of under supervision, rather than out on their own. Enough derailing the thread... If anybody wants to continue the conversation, shoot me a PM.
