Not sure if this helps support your reasons not to dump the Liberty coins... I'm really not a fan of the FS coins but I very much like the Liberty subset coins and the concept of this small set within the greater series. I feel it's a smart part of the series to hold on to / keep together.

One question about the coins in your images posted earlier. Are those coins all in their original Mint capsules? Did they change the size of the capsules after the series began? Some look more trim than others.

The changes in OGP within modern coin series is something that I'm not a fan of. The AGBs started out very plain and conservative in their blue velvet boxes then came that red packaged 2008 piece, the wood boxed prosperity, the brown boxes with wood(?) cases... the Mint really needs to get with some better concepts of consistent packaging design for the series from the outset, IMO.

How 'bout those 2008 proof sets, the last year of the state quarters and the only one that doesn't fit in the collector boxes! I thought when they did the '07s they would get it right again in '08 by just adding the presidents separate, but someone at the Mint must have realized, "Hey, that makes too much sense. This is our last chance to **** off the collectors who've made us some great profits with their ten-year commitment..."

I didn't realize I used a bad word! please insert "anger" instead of "**** off."

The '07 capsules were smaller, hence the discontinuation of the 4-coin collector box that was sized for the '07 capsules. I have some extra '07 capsules so I'll be able to fit my Liberty set into one nice box.

I remember when the series was announced, people who enrolled in subscriptions were promised a box that would hold the whole series. I wonder if those boxes were ever made?

Thanks for the info. Not owning these and having them in hand, I was unable to determine the changes in the OGP.

Well, Mrs. Grant married a man who loved horses and she herself came from an affluent plantation and lived amongst horses, no reason they had to make her, let alone all the other first ladies, look so 'horse-like' in these modern renditions. Most of these "designs" seem to be taken literally from familiar period photographs. I suppose a certain rigidity has managed translate through from the old plates that captured those stiff poses due to long exposure times in early photography sittings. A little 'artistry' wouldn't have hurt to freshen up their likenesses.

Wow, can't imagine that Mrs. Garfield coin being a big seller! I agree that lower mintage numbers are coming for some of these. Just wait until 2012 when we get the Alice Paul coin who wasn't even a First Spouse! I can't imagine there being a big group of fans of Alice Paul who will be ordering that one. Just too bad they didn't do another Liberty design for that one instead of screwing with the program. Would have been nice to have a 1/2 oz. gold Indian Head cent design :)

the 2010 FS all appear to have a very low mintage, and Jane Pierce may sell less than 2,500 coins. The rarity of this coin is making Jane look more attractive every day.

With such low mintage, how can buying any 2010 FS be a bad investment in 5 yrs?

Since you are talking "investment"... it could be a bad one if the POG dropped significantly and stayed down. The collector market for these coins is already small enough. Try selling them for what you paid if gold headed south. This is just a hypothetical, I don't see gold doing that and think you should buy these coins for what they are, collectibles, not investment vehicles. IMO.

Yeah, I agree... I'm also not on a first name basis with any of the former First Ladies either though :)

All coins are the same. If you are lucky enough,

You can catch less than 10% coins which I say good investment.
You can look at all American silver Eagle or American gold or even proof set. If you don't sell fast enough, it will go down.
