I just went through a roll of quarters and I thought i found a silver quarter due to no copper on the rim/side of quarter but instead found a 2003P Maine quarter. Is it possible that it is a silver quarter proof or something? Please help me out! Thank you!
Most likely what you have is one of those silver plated state quarters that the TV people have been selling for the eleven years. There are thousands and thousands of plated quarters out there and every so often someone tries to cash in on their "investment" and finds out they are only worth 25 cents. After several attempts to find someone "who will give me what they are really worth" they realize they are worthless and they spend them.
please take a pic and post it either here or pm it to me. i can tell if it is proof or not or if it actually is silver or not.
If it's a 2003 P it won't be a proof. And a better question, as always, is what does it weigh? If it is really silver it will be noticably heavier than a clad quarter. (And plese don't say " it seems heavier", or "it feels heavier" The difference is small enough that you can't judge it by feel unless you have had a LOT of practice judging very small differences in weight. Even then it's at the extreme edge of what is detectable by touch.) So we need an actual weight in grams to at least one decimal place, two would be even better.
I found one of those also, it looked like a silver quarter, but the plating did not change the weight, or at least not enough to change it from a regular Johnson metal coin.
I`ve gotten many silver state quarters but mine are all proofs that I`ve gotten as change. with mint mark(s).. If its not try again, they are many silver state quaters in circulation!!!
