Found a guy that had Morgan dollars for sell for price of silver. Story: Going back and forth with guy trying to get them and he was far away from me. He had a guy close that was supposed to come by and look at them. So I told him that I thought I was the first to contact him, and hoped that the other guy was not a reseller because I was collecting and wanted them for my collection. This was the right thing to say because he is a collector also just not a coin collector. These were coins that he inherited from his dad. Well he told me he would hold them for me and stall the guy IF I came to get them today! Went straight from work! I know you are probably bored with this story by now, but it's about to get interesting! Talking with him and discovered that he had other coins but didn't want to sell, at least not yet. Well the main ones turn out to be a 1914 D Lincoln and a 3 legged 1937 D Buffalo!!!!!!!! Told him if he EVER decided to sell make me the 1st he called, and he would be sure to do so because he would want them to go to someone that would keep them and not turn around a make a sell. Pics not clear but here is the 3 legger.
Spot price Morgans are a great deal. Beware of unslabbed 3-leggers....there's lots of fakes out there. You better know the diagnostics well before you hand over the cash.
Read this thread carefully for markers and you should have a very good chance. http://www.cointalk.com/t63603/ Also, most often counterfeiters don't pay much attention to the obverse of a 3 Legger. Look at this photo of mine. Look at the rough area on the brow, the back of the neck, under the chin. gap in second feather, die crack running along the braid ( may be smaller or missing in a small %). If these are present on the obverse and the reverse looks like the examples in the thread above, you have a very good chance. Don't just go by the "pee" and the rough back leg and close motto, use the obverse also. Jim
Thanks guys for the info and I don't think the guy wants to sell unless he needs money. I cannot get a better picture of this as I only had my iPhone 3GS which we know isn't the best for taking pictures and the guy lives very far from me(1 hr.). He also had the 1914 D lincoln cent.
Almost impossible to determine if this is the real deal or not. I thought those new iPhones 3GS took better pictures than that. That's a teaser coin that needs authentication way before purchasing.
I will verify the diagnostics that were shown in Jim's article. But the phone only takes so so pics and no macro mode that I know of. If you know an app let me know.
Absolutely! I work with some kids from the younger set and their Iphones take pretty good pics and some are better than my camera!
What's the name of the app? I'll gladly get it if I know what the name is, but my problem is shaky hands also.
