So going through rolls of nickels hoping to find a Buffalo etc. do you guys pull aside your Westward Journey nickel series and Forward-facing Jefferson (2006–present)? Just wondering for I have a crap load as I unload my rolls and before I cash them back in or should I keep one of each or all?
I kept one of each from each mint of the Westward Journey series and am doing the same for the forward facing. Only found 1 '09 and 1 '10 though.
I found some nicer ones that I put into flips. 2 of each. If I find better, I swap em out. Then I dump them. But I check each coin for anything that is not normal.
I don't need to set any of the circulated ones aside. I have 124 uncirculated rolls, both Mint-wrapped and OBW, in addition to another 250 rolls in square tubes that came from Mint bags. I even have 3 square tubes of proof nickels for each year that I'm using for a special project. Chris
Like I said, I'm using the proof Westward Journey nickels for a special project. I was able to negotiate a deal with Jerry at JP's Corner for 9 dozen of the 13-coin Westward Journey display cases. Besides having the holes for each of the P&D uncirculated coins for each year, it also has holes for the three different obverse Jefferson busts - 2004 "profile", 2005 "angled forward" and 2006 "facing forward". Instead of using uncirculated coins for these holes, I'm using the proof coins. It makes for a really nice display. Unfortunately, I've had some personal setbacks the last few years after the death of my Mom, so I've never gotten around to completing them. Chris
I have some but only b/c they were in a small collection I bought. If I were you, I would go thru the Bison's to see if you have one of those "spear thru heart" errors or any other errors or an MS70 and trade or sell the rest.
The "Speared Bison" was hyped more by SleazeBay sellers and never gained much in value to error collectors like the Wisconsin High and Low Leaf. I'd have a better chance at hitting the Powerball jackpot twice in one week than I would finding an MS70 in any of the rolls. Nope, I'll keep the Mint and OBW rolls intact rather than search them. Name another denomination of circulating coins that had three major obverse design changes in three years. Chris
I think the cents that circulated from 1856 to 1859, plus they also changed the size, and the composition. But more modern that you could pull from change, I had not thought of it before. I do keep the westward journey nickles, I have a 5 hole nickel holder that a coin talk member gave me when I purchased some coins from him, and I have been thinking about possibly using it for the westward journey set, or for a small circulated type set
I counted 13 Bisons out of the group. Guess I will just find the best or just go up the road and buy a proof. I found a guy that has a pack of proofs for the 04 up till 08. He didn't have any 09-10'.
Actually yes I do, and so far I'm up to about 28 of them......TOTAL. I also save 1997's. Been doing that for 13 years now. I've got 14 of them, 7 from each mint and I haven't found one for over a year now. Coins just don't change out too fast where I live. Only state quarter we ever got as a shipment from the Fed was the Massachusetts. So far for the 2009's I've seen one LP1 cent, one LP2 cent and two territory quarters and I saw those over a year ago.
I picked up all 8 roll 2004/05 P&D bank roll back then. 2006- date I get a roll of P&D nickel.but no 2009-D I did find a roll of 09-P, roll yet & 2010 just a roll of P so far
