Wow! That's a beauty! As far as a grade I will leave that to the grading experts but I will throw out a guess of AU58!

Here's mine which has a ding on it but I still like it! :D

Unc details but it appears to have been over-dipped.

I got this from a fellow HSV coin club member,I known for 20+ yr he passed about 2 to years ago. he was from England and NASA worker that NASA payed him to come to work for them.his wife is who I got this coin from after she moved back and about a year ago she sold me 3 this raw 1 and an MS-63 Anacs graded & the 1887 Crown gold MS-62 w/Dragon Slaying rev.
I can't say for sure that not dipped but known the person I would say I don't think he would have done that to any of his coins.

Thats a great looking coin jello. If the coin wasn't dipped and its hard to tell from a photo,,I would guess that it can be anything from AU-58 to MS-65. Either way its a beautiful coin :thumb:

    Those are my estimates.
I'd have to have the coin in hand to assess any cleaning.
It's not hard to imagine that it has been carefully dipped at some time.

It's a very lovely coin whatever its 'grade.' : )

It would be a good coin to work with photographically,
to produce the finest images possible.
It will be worth it, I believe. :)

Very nice half .. I started this set about two years ago but I kinda got sidetracked by other pieces. I always have an eye open for the jubilee set though. I would call your half crown MS61. Thanks for sharring it with us and re-firing my 1887 pistons...

Here are the 1887 pieces I have , the sixpence was found in a coin lot. The 3 pences will stay in my collection and I'm looking for a crown that hasn't been cleaned as mine was.

You could easy be correct. But what about all of the people who owned the coin before him ? You also have to remember that to most people there is absolutely nothing wrong with dipping a coin. More than a few knowledgeable people even consider dipping the right thing to do.

Point is, that coin shows no signs of luster. That could be due to the pics, but you are pretty good pics so I doubt that. Also the color is all wrong for a coin of that age - it should be toned and it isn't. And if a coin of that age isn't toned then it almost a certainty that it has been dipped. And over-dipping would also explain the lack of luster.
