TD banks in PA around philly have brinks wrap their coins in clear plastic wrapper, so I just pick up a roll, scan it, and if it has a silver in it, put it aside. Otherwise, toss it aside. Once I have the silvers put aside, I pull them out of the rolls, dump the coins into the box, and then hit up the non-silver rolls, double checking as I break them open. Then I just go to another TD bank, dump it into their coin arcade, and repeat.

For pennies, I flip them heads side up, and just pull aside years with major varieties that I'm interested in, which there are none of right now besides 2009. I'm saving every 2009 I get. Anyways, I divvy up the pennies into 5 piles, coppers ('81 and earlier), wheats ('58 and earlier) '82's (To figure out if they're copper), 2009's, and all other zincs go back.

Plastic cups can be your best friend. You can use them to sort by year. I usually just go for it. With halves I just make a stack for each year, and dimes I've really just been checking the edges. Plastic containers are a really good way to sort efficiently.

I'm going to have to ask my bank if they have clear rolls. Right now I have the home-rolled and cashed-in.

So far I've been putting them in decade piles, i.e., 80s, 90s, etc. I like the cup idea. Piles on a cotton t-shirt tend to spill into the neighboring pile.

Just get boxes. If they have their distributor wrap in clear, you'll get clear. Otherwise... Enjoy unwrapping those paper ones, haha. Halves still come in paper around here, it's not fun unwrapping all that.

You know, I kind of like the paper, theres a bigger element of surprise and I'm less disappointed if there isn't any silver. Not seeing silver in the clear dime rolls make me want to stop looking through them.

Do you co-mingle denominations in your boxes? This isn't meant to be provocative. Innocent question.

It's time saving... those plastic rolls probably cut my searching time in half, minimum.
Yep, I throw everything into one big box and take it back all at once, haha.

I may get a box of cents tomorrow and maybe cash a 20 at the local car wash to search some quarters.

I found a 1995 Canadian nickel tonight--in a roll of nickels. What the heck do you guys do with these babies? I'd feel guilty turning it back in to the bank.

  12. Family members bag of wheats, I found 1909 VDB & 1913 Barber Dime in XF condition. I was about 30 times more excited then they were lol.

Unless a Canadian nickel is pre-1981, I'm not interested in keeping it.

I'm not familiar with Canadian coins. Why pre-81?

Just began opening $20.00 worth of cents. What was the first cent that came out? A 2000 wide AM. That was awsome. I just started going to the bank to ask for rolls after seeing the great results that were posted here. Thanks to all for you continued updates. I know for a fact that I am hooked from now on.

On a side note. How much would it be worth if in a vf condition.
