I've thoroughly enjoyed making myself look silly grading MS Lincolns. It has certainly been educational. Now I'd like to do something a little different. I have 25 Middle Date Large Cents which I have not labeled and have not been graded by a TPG. I'd like to ask for 4 opinions on each coin and there are no right or wrong answers. 1. Detail Grade 2. Significant items affecting the coin, pro and con. 3. Net Grade 4. Retail Price estimate (total collector cost after fees) I'm interested to see if 3 or 4 tends to have smaller deviation from the norm. Option for attribution lovers. Attribution and rarity. I think I can post 5 pictures per post. for a total of 5 posts. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
I will try to work through them, but not sure I have enough time this week. The last one in number 4 I can't answer, because depending on the method of sale on what the fee's would be. I will have to think about some of them.
Okay - these are my opinions and they do not reflect what a tpg or eac might do. As mentioned not going to touch prices. Problem free coins and varieties are hard enough. Now you had problems - some harsh and some not so harsh(my opinion) and complicates things even farther. (1) 1817 VG-8 net G4. Verdigris, previoulsy corroded and cleaned. Still not bad overall and the variety is N-14. Could be N-15, but I think second leaf on reverse is slightly left of left foot of I. Just a touch to far to for N-15. (2) 1819 G-4 net AG-3 some slight corrosion on the reverse. I think the missing legend is die swelling or maybe bad planchet. Variety is N-5. (3) 1822 G-6 net ag-3 Old cleaning and starting to recover. Variety is N-1. (4) 1825 VF30 net VG-10. While the best details of the coins the corrosion and damage to obverse just does it in for me. Variety is N-9. (5) G-4 net AG-3 Looks like old corrosion and it was maybe cleaned and recolored. Very cool cud and the variety is N-5 and I think a late die state. My order for them in choice is actually 2, 3, 1, 5 and 4.
I posted a lot at once, but that was so everyone could work at their own pace. I appreciate the time constraints and any answers anyone chooses to devote to these questions.
