I've seen a lot of errors, but never anything like this

I found this coin in a junk lot. Definitely not a vice job. A piece from another coin broke off and fell into the die before striking this one? The lettering in the "hole" are incuse and backwards. Any ideas what this is? Does this type of error have a name? Is it valuable (I know, a Mexican 20 centavos, but still)?

Is that part raised from the rest of the coin? I'm not really familiar with Mexican coins, but my first thought would be it's glue. If a glob of glue is placed on that part of the coin, and another coin is placed on top of it the design will transfer, just like with your coin.

Nope, not raised. That's a pit there. Not a vice job and definitely not glue.

It looks like it might have been a massive strikethrough from a dropped element. Maybe Mike Diamond will chime in with a better explanation. Unfortunately, the coin has some corrosion issues that will affect the value. It is still a pretty cool find.

I agree. It's like a dropped grease blob, but whatever it was was harder than the grease we usually see.

The word MEXICAN (which is what was dropped onto the obverse) is very clear on the back, while the other letters seem to still be filled with grease.

This question was already answered on another forum. This is a brockage from a struck fragment.
