As a buyer, I hate reserves and always ask what the amount might be so I'll know whether or not to bid. eBay is weird in this respect as some seller feel that disclosing the reserve gives you, as a buyer, an unfair advantage. I find that to be so totally ignorant and never hesitate to let a seller know this when I receive that particular reply.

As a seller, I also hate reserves. That is....................... until a mint set sells for LESS THAN FACE VALUE! A-r-r-g-g-h!

How True. As a novice at all this, I recently listed a roll of 1964 D Washingtons. I figured the shipping and insurance fairly but put a reserve that wasn't met by $1. I started to offer a second chance but opted to sit on them. Heck, they don't eat and the only reason to sell was for something to do. One of my friends from here straightened me out, but the auction was a done deal. lol

nah, you don't have nothing to worry about, no one's gonna buy your stuff.... (JK!) :D I don't think you are pushing your stuff and you weren't the one who put your link here. you put it in the right place when you first announced your auction. people put ebay auction links in threads all the time, albeit it's usually to poke fun at bad listings, but there could always be the offhand chance that some CT gets their listing posted in a thread by someone else. if the mods find it unacceptable they will step in and break that link... but, fwiw-- good luck to you on your listing! :smile

As long as YOU do not post the link it should be okay. Besides as Krispy says the moderators will keep things cleaned up if anyone gets out of line with the rules.

how does the auction forum work? i posted on sunday, but wanted to repost the auction (which ends sunday) in there again. there is a 7 day waiting period to post again in there. is it 7 days to the hour, or just an estimate? my question is, i posted last sunday in there. can i post this sunday, or do i have to wait till monday?

Not sure. I haven't used it yet. But in the Classified you define how long the listing runs and you either wait until that time comes or delete your listing before you can list another. Now in Classifieds, if you are a CT Supporter level member, you get more Classified listings (or so I believe that to be how it works).

I will never put up a reserve. I only put Buy It Now or Best Offer on eBay auctions that I post.

the final talley is 26 watchers :) (just a few hours left on it)

the point being how bad reserves are. if i had a reserve of say $200, i may have 5 watchers

...but you're speculating about that. The only one way to know would be to list the same item, one with and one without a reserve. Would you be able to do this under the same time frame and not affect your outcome, listing both simultaneously? under the same seller ID? would that alter/affect your number of watchers and bid history? could you employ a friend to list the same item, same time frame, same terms of auction, etc. or would this only undermine your study... you would each need parallel listings, reputation, etc.

Sorry, I'm not interested in your items. Hard to see what's in those bags and not a one coin I can see for myself in the pictures to measure condition, value and such. To some extent this may account for the slow bid activity although coin auctions usually heat up in the last few minutes of bidding. Good luck to you.
