I can't remember if I posted this one or not. But, if I have, oh well... It's a 1901 ticket from the Pan American Expo in Buffalo, NY. Printed by E.A. Wright Banknote Engravers. They seemed to have a lock on nearly all the convention and major event tickets in the early 20th century.
I really love this one! Have seen the face of it before and would love to add it to my collection one day! I am also interested in this one as it's a seldom seen E A Wright Bank Note Co. piece. Nice piece!
I like it too...but I'm trying to divert my eyes as I have enough to collect right now and don''t want to fall in love with another type
That's a beautiful ticket, GSA. Shows that even some of the lesser known printers can do a bang-up job. Here's a French lottery ticket: Dave
I saw Jimi Hendrix in 1969 at SUNY Stony Brook and sold the ticket stub on eBay in 1999 or 2000 for $1200. Quite a surprise as I figured it was only worth about $50. Out of 3000 people at the concert I was the only one who saved the stub. If I can ever locate the photo I will post it here.
Now that is something pretty darned cool to be able to boast about. Would love to see what an old ticket like that looks like, and of you if you have one of you from that show or close to that time in that period. :smile
Thought I'd revisit this thread and post my newest acquisition. Not a ticket exactly, but a member's pass to the House of Representatives. Constituents would (and still do) visit the office of their representative and were given a pass to visit the gallery during House proceedings. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing produces these passes. Sometime around the 1940s the BEP switched over to using offset printing, but this one was printed using the intaglio method. The Senate had similar passes -- I'll post a scan if I can obtain one inexpensively.
O.K. here's mine. For some reason I never went to the Steppenwolf concert. I think I bought the tickets, then the girl broke up with me....her loss....well, maybe not. Does anyone remember Steppenwolf? I think the Army-Navy ticket is pretty cool. Bruce
Steppenwolf - "Born To Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride"... one of my favorite bands when I was a kid. Also, "Steppenwolf" was my nom de plume when I wrote for an underground entertainment magazine back in the 70's.
I still have my 45rpm of Steppenwolfs, Born To Be Wild / Magic Carpet Ride. Played that thing countless times! It's also an excellent book by Hermann Hesse.
Good to know there's some other young (at heart) guys on the forum who still remember Steppenwolf. Foghat anyone? Bruce
Today, I found the bookend to the House pass I posted earlier in this thread!! At a stamp show of all places. This is a 1912 Senate Chamber pass, also intaglio, by the BEP. These went over to litho printing just a few years later, so I was very happy to pick this one up. The Capitol building on this pass looks remarkably like the one on the $2 1875 Legal Tender note, with some small alterations. Take a look and decide for yourself.
