I want to sell a lot of my coins as they have been in my dresser drawer for over 40 years (some of them), and I need to do some housecleaning. Can anyone tell me an approximate value for the following items (1923) silver peace dollars, excellent condition, no tarnish. I also have a 1904 Morgan silver dollar great condition, minor tarnish, great raised letters and
head. I also have a silver 1939 Canadian dollar, perfect condition with the words "GEORGIVS VI D: G: REX ET IND:IMP: Don' know anything about the canadian one, but it is beautiful. I tried to photogram the coins, but have never been able to do a good job with my camera. If anyone is able to give me some information, I will try to photograph the coins again. Thanks!

Your Canadian Dollar is one of 1,363,816 minted in .800 silver. It contains 0.6 oz of silver.

About 5 or 6 years ago I paid $6.60 for a circulated one that grades Extremely Fine.
A low/mid-uncirculated grade MS63 might RETAIL for $30. The higher the grade the higher the value.

PS - Don't try to remove any of the tarnish or do anything to clean your coins.

yes, first things first. do NOT clean any of the coins. not that you said you did or are going too, but many people think it will make them more valuable. in reality it will take your common coin, that may be worth more then melt and turn it into junk melt silver.

without seeing pictures it would be hard to give you a price. the peace dollar is probably worth $15-$35. the morgan is probably worth $15-$60. i don't know much about the canadian but with todays price of silver its worth around $10 in silver alone. did you check for mint marks?

to get pictures, look for the little flower button on your camera, it may also say macro" or "macr" something along those lines. if you have a tripod use that, either way take the photo a foot or two away and zoom in after its already on the computer. if its a decently sunny day, take the photos outside, not in direct light, but in good light. if not take the photos inside under 1 or 2 desk lamps. also not right under the lamps, get the area nice and lighted, but not directly on the coin. using a white sheet of paper under the coin, will also help. i think thats about it? that should be enough to get decent results. if you wanted to get even better pictures you could use a photoshop program, if you don't have shop you could get the free and easier version called "photoscape". use the brightness features to adjust the photo, sharpen and contrast. but that shouldn't be needed, we should be able to get a good idea with the raw photos, if done decent.

Until you can post pictures of the Peace and Morgan dollars, they're worth melt.

Peace and Morgan pure silver content: .77344 oz.

Price of Silver at close today: $18.30 an oz.

Multiply the two: $14.15 each dollar.

I would be interested in purchasing the Peace Dollars and the Morgan for $14-$14.50 a piece. However, you could probably get a better price on eBay.

Today i just bought a 23' Peace dollar in high AU to low MS for 37.50, so I would get some pictures up to get a better price for your coins.

Sorry to say coervi, but the 1923 Peace Dollar is the/one of the easiest coin out of the Peace $ series to obtain in the AU-MS range. It's worth anywhere from $20-$23 if a collector is looking for it and most of the time dealers will pay you little over spot for it, maybe $16-$18. If you bought it with a return policy, I would take advantage of it!

i agree, i see high ms '23's for $20-$25 all day. this is at shops and shows, never checked any online places. in high au to low ms, i agree its worth $18 at the most.

hell, i even seen an ngc slabbed ms 67* for $40! i was very close to picking it up, the toning was very nice.

    ehm...

If you aren't registered on HA, it was an auction in '06 for an NGC certified 1923 Peace $1 MS67 and it went for a whopping $3,220.

Are you sure you saw that grade (or price) correctly?

hmmm. that is crazy, i am actually not 100% on it being a 67, but its either that or 65-66. also, it was definitely $40 and ngc. i had it in my hands for over 10 minutes, trying to talk myself into buying it.

its at some little jewelery shop, that gets some coins from time to time. if it indeed is a 67*, i am picking it up(obviously). even if its a 65, i still will probably pick it up, the toning is great. the guy that runs the place was asking me about it, because this was the first slabbed coin they got in. hey thought he got taken, thinking it was some kinda replica and not real silver. they mostly get junk silver and gold coins. they put all the coins in a case.

I doubt that the price or grade are accurate.

    That would be incredible as well. 1923 Peace, MS-65 $144, MS-66 $600, Numismedia.com.

    Are you sure it wasn't a 63 or 64?

A MS-67 1923 is worth thousands of dollars. Would you care to PM me with the location of said coin?
