This coin is on my shortlist of coins to look for at shows. You'd be surprised how many dealers are too busy to look for these coins. I found this one at a small show I went to recently. This is the DDR 1939 Nickel. In this grade this coin is worth $30-$50. I got this one for $.75

Okay, I'm a newbie. What is it that you're seeing that identifies the coins as DDR? Thanks!

The N in cents might be easiest to see. Its harder and takes a trained eye to see them on circulated coins.

Nice pickup. My favorite always was the 1858 SL half obverse DD. It was the most common half for sale, so I would always check for the DD. Miss liberty has 7 fingers!

I'd say the place to look is the O in Monticello.
And I too have not found one yet.

To those of you that have, how many have you cherrypicked?

Darn haha, it would be nice to have an idea of what to look for. I'm definitely adding this nickel to my "list", which consists of 1 coin as of now lol

You should buy the book, "The Cherrypickers Guide". Its not too expensive, lists all of these, and gives you a numbering system to list them as. Books are knowledge, and knowledge is money in coin collecting. I do not know if my favorite is in there, I got the tip from a SL half book I bought in the early 1990's, and picked about 7 of them before it ever became more public knowledge.

    Very nice.

    One of my favorites, also.

I've cherried 4 of the 5 pieces that I have.

    Plus many other nice cherries.

    1950 S/D
    1964 DDR
    1964 D DDR

wasn't aware of the dimes until I learned from the forum.
Since then I cherrypicked 2-3 of each and got them slabbed.
    Not bad a $21 investment worth $250

very nice money to be made off of these

It is easier to see on an uncirculated coin. Once you know the pickup points, cherrypicking a circulated example becomes easier.

i have(well i guess had:mad:) a really nice one i found in an old roll of nickels. the newest nickel in that roll was a 48(a bunch). it was the most beat up nickel in the roll and was still probably au!

this was when i first started and noticed the doubling, but didn't know about the error. i found out a few months ago and still can't find that coin! either when i was taking photos of my coins, some girl that was over swiped it or i was looking at my collection after a panic attack and placed the coin somewhere "safe". and don't remember because my anxiety medication(xanax) makes me forget things. probably the the meds, because i don't know why she would take a nickel when i had a few gold and silver coins out. i need to hide my collection from myself as soon as i start with an attack.

either way you guys(maybe girl(s)?) got some nice examples and good plan to cherry pick them, just don't let to many people in on it!
