Which of these CoinTalk members have taught you the most about the hobby which we all cherish?

The names are in random order. Not all of the CoinTalk members which have made this such a great place will be included. This is because I will accidentally miss some. If you wish to vote for another, please choose OTHER. You may also choose OTHER if your response is "This poll is stupid and so are you Evorlor!" The poll is anonymous. The winner will receive...PRIDE!

DISCLAIMER: This poll is completely optional. You are not required to participate.

I think that there are a couple of HUGE omissions in your list. Most would say that to not miss someone would be almost impossible, but when compiling a list, you should probably include at least all of the major players.

The one that I will point out is someone who I think is so obvious that I believe "other" may have a good chance of winning.

The person of whom I speak is someone who has published more great articles here than anyone else. He teaches more in 1 article than some may post in the entirety of their stay at CT. He is so well known that he has an award named after him and any poll and thread that talks about teaching on CT without listing Clinker is just plain old incomplete.

There are others who post here regularly who have taught me lots and they continue to do so. There are newbs who teach me things by making me question facts and research stuff in order to confirm or refute what they say.

I think while the idea of a poll like this is quite flattering to the people that you have listed, it is relatively unproductive in that it builds resentment within others who may feel slighted by either their absence or the absence of 1 or more of the people that they would like. IOW, it's always political football and threads like this are highly unproductive within online communities like CT.

::: putting soap box back in the corner :::

Ya...I already said I did not include them all because I knew I would not remember them all. There are so many. And there are only 60 maximum slots for polls :) Sorry Clinker and the others! But if other wins, I think it is going to be for the vote "This poll is stupid and so is Evorlor!"

If other wins it will be because the list is incomplete. I just told you that you can't possibly make a list complete. There's always someone that you miss. I also said that polls like this are political footballs and tend to hurt more people's feelings than point people toward whom here they should listen to. (I assume that was your aim.) Therefore IMHO being a bad idea. But remember that good people have bad ideas all the time. It doesn't change the fact that they're good people. :)

I understand what the OP may be trying to express although a poll about individual members can easily be misconstrued and all of the things Mike has posted are a major risk of such a thing. Perhaps a general thank you to the CT community would have sufficed here. In regards to the direct question posed, CoinTalk (the collective entity) is the greatest teacher. E Pluribus Unum.

Maybe I am posting what we are all wondering! I realized when I posted this, that I *WOULD* receive negative criticism, but was willing to make that sacrifice. My intention was to say thank you to the above names, and give them a friendly contest. I am aware that a poll like this needs a scapegoat, and that is what I am here for. That is why I made it clear that OTHER was also for those who wished to vote against me instead of vote for their favorites (Assuming their favorite was listed and I did not miss it.)

Anyways, votes are appreciated. I am willing to take hazing in order to make this poll.

Well I for one am honored to be on the list and surprised.
I do think the list is incomplete but yea there is no way to make it a full list to make everyone happy.
Take for instance LeHigh, I have learned tons from him about Jefferson Nickels and Toned coins and would have had him there over me by far. Or since Hobo has been back he has been very helpful again. Or Physicsfan although I haven't seen him on much recently. Or mikenoodle, schatzy, snaz or ThePenny Lady...ect

All would be great to put in.
Hey I like the idea it just is one of those hard to execute.

Creating this thread does make one stop and think of every person on this forum who has been a teacher one way or another. It might have been better to ask the question without the poll so everyone could voice their praise about the member or members who influenced them the most.

    I couldn't pick just one.

That would be nice, but then it does become personal. I went with the poll in order to keep choices anonymous. Perhaps for someone to do this, but to put some more time and effort into it. To have members nominated and then entered into the contest forum. with a nice present for the member voted the most helpful. hmmm....

No offense, but why no lovin' for the Ancients? :grandpa:

Seriously, when one considers the body of work-some of it unique and groundbreaking- from people like Dougsmit and others, one realizes that any poll without mention of them is flawed and incomplete.

I've been on this site for a few years now and I'm impressed by the increasing numbers of excellent Ancient teachers.

Out of the world's population of more than 6,697,254,041, how many would consider this poll valid despite omitting Aidan Work?

dont let this thread turn ugly. We all have our "mentors" and they are in different fields just as our interests are in those.

This was just posted to show appreciation to those that help with their brains, time and skill.

i couldn't pick just one because it's too hard. if i need knowledge on ancients, there are certain people i go to. if i need knowledge on paper, there are different people i go to.

Yeah this poll should have never been started - there are many that contribute, so to offer a limited list is offensive and misleading. I mean look at the results thus far. Other than this is a stupid poll getting the most votes, Doug is the only one who received more than one vote, the rest voted for themselves. LOL, just kidding guys!
