Hello SEG Members: Of recent we have received several inquiry's on the Presentation Schedule and by this I mean the frequency of 1 presentation per month. In the past we presented on a more frequent basis and well to say the least not everyone stayed up with the schedule including me! So in order to review this the way it should be, I would like to present this poll to all the SEG Members on Presentation frequency. I have posted the "Guidelines" and annotated that any SEG member can write an "Article" of his or her choice and post it at anytime (via date assignment). If this is not clear, please do send me and Krispy a PM with your concerns. I am trying to accommodate everyone and leave enough room for life's little bleeps that occur in which so many of us can not control. So here is the poll, please vote on your frequency date. I will converse with Krispy and we can design a "Article" award as well since articles would not be judged as a presentation for the award. Please let me know how you feel about this as well. We can call it the " 2010 SEG Best Article Award"
I think one scheduled presentation per month is a good starting point. Anyone can use the "article" approach when desired.
Please all members vote..if we do not know what you are thinking, we can not act in the way that will support the group the best way we can. Krispy and I are ok with whatever majority vote that arises from this. If you do not vote, we will see no need for change. Thank you. SEG Admin (RickieB, Krispy)
I voted monthly, but then got to thinking and wonder if bi-monthly wouldn't work. I'll have to go back and look at past presentations as I can't remember if many were done by the same individuals. If thats the case them monthly would work best. But if we had that many by mostly different people, maybe we need a more frequent schedule, otherwise people might have to wait a year to present. For myself, I'm liking the idea you brought up about an article. I may work on that for the vinyl page question, but with work I cannot give a timeframe for completion. Guy
For me, the frequency would be completely dependent on the number of members in the SEG. I would suggest that probably the most you could get out of members would be an average of 2 presentations a year, so the frequency should be around every 365/(2*SEG) days. For example right now, with the suggested monthly presentations, if you have more than 12 members, not all members can even do a presentation in the upcoming year. Dave
DaveM.. This is what I like about our members. I agree with you on this and we should (for award reasons) have a minimum number of Presentations that will let everyone submit for the opportunity to compete for the award. I like this very much and do not have a reasoon why we did not add this in. Thank you for the suggestion. I suppose we were just a bit eager to get it going again. If you like Daves Idea, please say so in a post. RickieB
Ok SEG members: Looking at who has performed a Presentation in 2010 I get the following list; 1. Ikandiggit 1x 2. DaveM 2x 3. Art 1x 4. RickieB 2x 5. Duke K 1x 6. USS656 1x 7. Wiggamoo7 1x We have a total of 14 members and 7 members are still current so this leaves 7 presentations that we can do before years end. I will cooordinate along with Krispy a schedule that will allow for these presentations and post it soon. I will also augment the guidelines into a final version. The 7 folks that still need to do presentation this year are as follows: 1. Connor1 2. Beef1020 3. MPCUSA 4. Krispy 5.Coleguy 6. JHinton 7. Lettow We will coordinate Presentations for 2011 by the number of members we have at that time. Everyone is entitled to submit an Article at anytime they wish. Please submit a time slot if you are interested in doing an Article. RickieB Thanks for your input thus far, it is appreciated. It may take a little adjustment before we get it all ironed out but hey, at least we are not sitting still on this! Here is Krispy's post showing the Presentations for 2010. http://www.cointalk.com/t120917/#post957497 RickieB
Monthly. Is it possible the presentation a "sticky" for the month so it doesn't get lost in the new threads? That way a lot more members would see it and may become interested in participating.
Well, DaveM hit my objection right on the head: in any given year there should be enough time slots for everyone to participate by giving a presentation if they desire. However, I think we should stick to the one presentation per person for the year. Doing the math on it, if we each did two presentations in a year for the current 16 members, and remembering the summer break, you end up doing 3.5 presentations per month, so back to almost monthly. You can either do bi-monthly, which would leave a few extra slots open or that a person could do an extra presentation in, or do something like divide the number of people in half who need to present and add one or two from the second half of the year to the first half since it is shorter.
I would like that a lot as they can get passed by even by me so those who do not look for them still might not even know about them.
Just because there are 14 members so far doesn't mean we need 14 presentations this year. Some members may not want to do a presentation that would enter into the "formal" judging but would prefer an article. If twelve slots - 1 per month were opened for reservations it would tell us how many presentations are really going to happen and the general subject matter being prepared. Remaining slots could be given to members wanting to do more than one presentation. Articles may be more effective for general things versus specific engravers, vignettes, etc. For example the project I've been working on would be just fine for an article vs. a presentation.
Gentlemen: Please see my post above. With the current 14 members we have 7 of them that have already posted a presentation for 2010. That leaves 7 presentations and as many Articles as one wants to do for the remaining part of 2010. I have also counted weeks remaining and we have 16 weeks (starting in September)..if you give a person say the weekend of Sept 4-5 and 11-12th to finish their presentation and have it posted by the 12th..that covers 7 bi-weekly presentations with 1 remaining. I did not include the Christmas weekend which falls on Fri-Sat and Sun this year. I think this is the way I would like to finish the year..what say you? I will post the weeks shortly in the Thread I started on time slots. RickieB
