I am thinking about suscribing to a coin magazine and I can really only afford to buy one so I am looking for suggestions. I am basically interested in U.S coins, both old and modern and would like to know more history behind them and varieties, grading, mintages, etc. I appreciate any help you guys can give.

Well with a ANA membership you get The Numismatist and it's good.
I pick up a Coin Prices every now and then it's not only got the prices but mintages too which can be helpful.

Coin World would be a good choice. They are advertising 52 issues for $49.97. With the subscription you also get digital access to Coin World, Coin Values and Scott Stamp Monthly.

I like COINage, but most of the advertisements are junk.

I'd go with Coin World. The full subscription (52 weekly editions) also includes their monthly Coin Values magazine which always has a feature article on grading a specific denomination, i.e., Morgan, Walker, CBH, etc. While the Numismatist, published by the ANA, is nice, it is only a monthly magazine so it doesn't provide you with all of the latest developing news.

  7. I say go with the ANA publication. It's the best, IMO. Plus, they have printed both letters I sent to them! :)

  8. Coin World digital edition is $19.95 per year (52 issues) plus other extras. TC

I liked COINage mag too, but their customer service was extremely rude. When I joined I got my March issue, no June or July issues, when I called them they told me I was full of it. Recieved August with a subscription renewal. Got 2 mags in 4 months was called a liar and already they wanted more money. I still have my 10 issues and thats enough...

With an ANA membership you get The Numismatist (hard copy mailed to you or optional electronic version that you can download as a PDF)

Also with your ANA Membership you can subscribe to Coin World publications online, you just need to register with your email address and ANA #, each week you get an email from CW which you can read Coin World, World Coins, Paper Money and the related numismatic titles from Amos Publishing, online. Again, you can print or save as a PDF the digital version.

Go digital with your subscriptions, you can save money, trees and space on your bookshelf!

In 5+ years with Coin World, I never once had a problem with their Customer Service. If I received an issue with a torn page or if one didn't arrive, they replaced it immediately, sending it in a large envelope.

Same thing here.. I would give them an 11 out of 10 in customer service.. I called them twice, once was a copy that was mutilated, they mailed a new one out pronto. The other never came, again, a 3 minute call and it was resolved..

I got the $20 coin world digital subscription several months ago. I have no complaints about it. I liked saving some money along with shelf space, as mentioned.

...and with a digital version you get: no bent corners, ripped covers or missing pages

Haha that and you get the safety of your neighbors or mailman knowing you collect coins.

Questions : Is there a coin magazine that deals with foreign coins ? I would be interested in such a subscription but it appears that all these titles are American coinage.

Coinworld talks about world coins and their monthly version of the magazine has many pages dedicated to it.

Yes, it sounds an odd title, but Coin World also published World Coins. You can also access their Coin Values pages for Canadian, Mexican, British and Euro coins values online too.

Not if you use a post office box!

A PO Box is an added expense and the postal employees are not always the most trustworthy (as we all should know) plus there's still no guarantee of a damage free copy reaching you. Digital is delivered to your in box on time with no exceptions like the postal carrier or the sort might have to contend with.
