Went to my main dealer's this afternoon and saw this 47-S in his case. He was asking $16, but let me have it for $12. Looks MS-65 to me.

Nice. I'm working on the Washington set right now. I have everything from '64 through '08 (not too worried about finding the more recent stuff), and have about half of the ones between '32 and '63.

I have 1960 - present proofs, and the SMS 65-67. It's another fun series to collect.

    I wouldn't go 5.

Too much activity in the field behind Washington's head.

Thats a scan of the coin.

In hand the obverse and reverse are free of blemishes and bag marks, original luster is exceptional, details in relief are strong and quite sharp.

well still one of the lower mintages for the 40's, 50's and 60's washington quarters.

So what's keeping it from a 67? Got any better pics?

Just the scans. I'll see if I can get some pics.

I also compared it to the PCGS photogradeonline, and it's not close to 67. Looks identical to the 65.

I was just pointing out that if your description were totaly accurate you'd have yourself a better than 65 coin. What are its flaws?

Hardly any at all. No signs of wear, very minute scratch on the eagles right wing edge, 1 small scrape above Washington's head. That's it. The head and neck are clean, no marks or wear, the eagle is clean with no wear, and the luster is exceptional. I usually find specimans of this year and mm lacking luster, and bag marks and wear on it. This looks like it may have been in someones 47 mint set.

Not the greatest but better than the scanned images.

Is that a spot behind his head?

What's going on with the neck? Rusted dies?

The pick is a lot better than the scan. Nice luster... clean coin. The only thing that I'm questioning is what looks to be a scratch in the center of the obverse. There's also some light which blocks out some of the portrait and bust where there are often contacts. The eagle looks very nice.

A cat hair, my cat was rubbing on my leg when I was changing the 2x2 for the coin.
