Fake CAC Stickers on Ebay.............Say it aint so

Ok well went to a coin/antique fest last weekend and ended up selling my 1944S MS67FB Dime to a dealer that was walking the floor looking for some nice toners. That coin can be seen here

Than last night I go to one of my favorite ebay sellers pages and to my astonishment I see the coin. I sat there scratching my head because when I sold it the holder was 100% free of scratches. The coin itself was not though which is why I decided to sell the coin because there is a scratch along the bottom of here bust. I would assume the bolder scratches toward the bottom are to try to cover the scratch although you can still see it perturbing out. Lastly the coin did not have a CAC sticker a week ago so I find it hard to believe that the beat up looking sticker was put there my the CAC guys.

I sure wish I knew which one did the dirty deed so I can avoid them at all cost

I just checked with CAC - it is legit.
All be it that the scratch on the slab is questionable.

$350, it wasnt really for sale.........I took it to more so show it off but there was a adding machine I liked there and he happend to offer enough for me to buy it.

 

How in the world? do they do this service at coin shows or offer 1 day service?

 

Also I might add that the scratch was enough for it to get slabbed genuine, which is why I wasnt very happy. my pictures was the original sellers pictures and you cannot see a trace of it. I am sure you see the scratch on the second batch. so I dont know how it grabbed a CAC

Yes & It depends - I can FedEx a coin to them on Monday & for $100 can have it back Wednesday afternoon. For $40 I can have it back by the next Monday usually. So it wouldn't be impossible.

 

This may have an obvious answer, but what does the CAC sticker mean?

Wow. So they scratch the case all up to hide the real scratch. How uncool!!!!

I am confused. The CAC sticker checks out meaning no foul play. Do you really either dealer purposefully scratched the slab in order hide a defect on the coin? I am not buying that. The entire holder is scratched up and it didn't actually hide the defect. I think this is just coincidence.

 

Hey I stand corrected than......the whole thing is very confusing to me! Within a week it gets a CAC sticker all scratched up than shipped to Boston? Im just gonna let this one rest and remain a mystery to me forever.......BTW Lehigh it covered a majority of the defect.... do you think I would have sold that pretty of a coin if there was'nt something major going on? Im not ruling out the coincidence I am just saying

 

More concerning than you selling it is how a coin with such a defect can get an MS67 grade and a CAC sticker.

 

You're not making sense. Slabbed genuine? In your original post it was NGC MS-67FB.

 

Where's the scratch? I don't see one in either sets of pictures.

 

I have never seen the coin in hand, but based on the photos of the current E-Bay seller, there appears to be a mark directly to the left of the date at the very bottom of the bust. Strangely, I can't see it on the original photo. I have a feeling that it is photo magic and that the distraction looks worse from certain angles and almost non-existent from others.

 

you nailed it on the head Lehigh. I got the coin never expecting it to be there because its non apparent in the first set of pics. the scratch ends at the left of the date but begins at the front lower part of the bust......I wish I knew how to make arrows
