I would like to begin collecting some of the beautiful military notes and was wondering if anyone could help me find a website or any information regarding the note types and their current prices. Also any feedback or tips in regard to starting this collection would be appreciated. Thanks

They are a great series to have. I have lots and love everyone of them :D
Mine are not as high quality as MPCUSA's but that doesnt mean I love them less lol

If your just getting started there is a book by Fred Swan that is good to read about them. There's a checklist in the back if your going to go for the full set. The Nickels, Dimes and even Quarters are usually easy to get in high grade and I have mulitples of those but the Fives, Tens and Twenty's can be a bear depending on the series.
Welcome to MPC's and hope you like them.
Feel free to ask any questions that I can help with.

Please let me add that we have a group Titled ; Security Engravers Group (here is the link ) http://www.cointalk.com/t120917/

One of the membership benifits will be a listing of resources for Paper Money. Why dont you consider joining?
This list will be sent to all current members of 8-2-2010 and will not be published here on line.

Everyone has steered you towards MPC but you did not specify what type of military notes you are looking for. The term encompasses a number of areas:

    MPC
    Allied Military Currency
    Japanese Invasion Money
    Japanese Puppet Banks in China
    Philippine Guerrilla Notes
    POW notes
    Military club chits
    WWI notes
Siege notes (Boer War, Khartoum, Mainz)
    Internment Camps
Issuing regions created due to war (Bohemia & Moravia, WWII Serbia, Slovakia, etc.)
    War Bonds

You may want to subscribe to the MPCGram. This is an email newsletter dedicated to military numismatics (more than just MPC). Send an email to the editor, Roger Urce, at MPCGram@yahoo.com and he will put you on the list.

If WWII is your thing, get a copy of Schwan-Boling's World War II Remembered.

I was remiss for not plugging the MPCFest, the annual gathering of military numismatic enthusiasts held in Port Clinton OH. Fest XII is sometime in March 2011. I will track down the date and let you know for certain.

Rusty, if you don't mind would you also repost your notes in your thread: Security Engravers Presentation by MPCUSA
The links seem to have been broken and we'd like newer members to get a chance to see the old Presentation materials, potentially deciding to join the Security Engravers Group. Thanks.

Would love to Chris! But i have had problems posting in that format, I was actually looking for

Okay, no problem. I don't recall what your presentation originally looked like in it's format, but if you have files you need uploaded you can send them to either of us and we can try to re-post them for you. Not sure what the format was but if you wanted to re-do it I'm sure we can figure it out. Your notes are a great example of Security Engraving and history that I wouldn't want to loose your Presentation materials over some technical issue we could figure out or get Peter to correct if it's site related, especially since it was the only one on MPC I recall we had so far.

WOW is all I can say. Thanks for all the links and information and those awesome pics. Man what a collection you have Mpcusa.I have'nt studied up enough on the different series of the notes, quess I have just fell in love with the art work and the history of them. I will be studying up on them this week with some of the info provided from you guys. I love the ones with the eagle and the fact that there are so many diverse designs that you can collect just about any image as many were portrayed. AWESOME and keep the pics coming.

MPC is lithographed, not engraved. The only security devices on MPC are planchets in the paper and UV reactive ink.

Thanks for the clarification on that. I hadn't stopped to think that MPC notes had not to been intaglio printed, but it certainly makes sense for the efficiency of printing and quickly distributing new series so frequently. Aren't the vignettes found on some MPCs initially steel plate engravings transferred to litho plate from other pieces of currency and postage. For instance the image of Pablo (buffalo) Series 1901 $10 and the Mirror Lake/Mount Rainier vignette used on the 3¢ Issue 1934 Natational Parks postage have been used on certain MPC notes Rusty has posted on CT. Are completely redesigned after the originals or were the originals transferred from BEP dies, rescaled for MPCs then lithographically printed?

Hey, I'm pretty new to cointalk, and I'm an average collector, but can somebody tell me what military notes are.
