It is a 1947 canadian nickel. it is not round. it is more of a dodechahedron. (twelve sides) there is a dot under the seven, and there are dots all around the edge of the coin, like a border. on the tails side, there is a beaver on a log/rock, with 5 cents written above it and a maple leaf on each side of the lettering. underneath the beaver is CANADA and 1947 under that. and on the left side of the coin is K.G. on the heads side is some guy with GEORGIVS VI D:G:REX ET IND:IMP: oh, wait a second. the dots around the edge arent dots. theyre like spikes, little roundish rectangles coming from the edge of the coin. i don't know coins very well. i hope it was detailed enough for ya!

Try to post a pic of the nickel and a close-up of the date. Is it a dot or a maple leaf under the "7"? The one with the dot is the rarer one and catalog value for EF is $90 to MS 66 $3000.

The dot and maple leaf were to indicate coins struck in 1948 while waiting for new dies to arrive because India became independent and a new obverse legend had to be designed. The original legend "ET IND: IMP:" was the Latin abbreviation indicating the King was the Emperor of India.

If it's worn, it's worth a nickel. If it has a dot, then it's worth a couple of bucks unless it's in "pristine" condition, that is, no wear. If you found in circulation then it's worth very little.

EF is Extremely (or Extra) Fine

MS is Mint State (usually coins in original condition stored correctly and not handled will be mint state.)

    Hello,
I have a 1947 5¢ piece with the dot after the 7. At the back it does state ET IND IMP. What is this worth? It's in near mint condition.
