Check out this item! the second photo shows a "V.D.B" at the bottom of the penny... I'm pretty eager to find out if it's "s-mint" or not... what do y'all think? http://cgi.ebay.com/RED-BU-VDB-SHOWING-UNSEARCHED-PENNY-ROLL-1909-S-VDB-/160460586582
I didn't bid on it haha... I don't plan on it.. but there any significant difference on the back of an "s-mint" vdb, in comparison to a non-s vdb.
Nope. These eBay rolls are junk. Do ya really think a seller is stupid enough to let an S-VDB go? Sure they throw in key dates once in a while to make their feedback look good, but think about it, that's ONE roll out of who knows how many? It's not worth it. Oh, the "Nope" is to say that there is no difference between a VDB and S-VDB on the back.
There were 28 million 1909 VDB lincoln cents minted. Less than 500,000 1909 S VDB were minted. So just from a pure odds standpoint, it's a 56-1 chance against it being a 1909 S VDB. But actually it's much lower than that, because for the last 100 years or so, people have been searching for the 1909 s VDB's and pulling them out of circulation. You can't tell if that roll has been tampered with. I sure wouldn't risk my money when the odds are at least 56-1 against.
wasn't there a thread recently about someone bringing up a topic like this and someone looked at the recent purchases of the seller? they found he recently purchased rolls/crimper and a lot of P-vdb's. either way, i would put anything on it being a P-VDB and the other end coin being some common date higher grade red wheat, with the rest being common date vg-vf. coins.
There is a difference between a S mint VDB and a p mint. The periods are spaced differently after the D. On the S mint the period is spaced evenly between the D and the B, while on the P mint the period is snug to the D. Check out any heritage archive photos to see the difference. V. D . B.( s mint) V. D. B.(P mint). Its a great characteristic in authenticating raw svdbs.
You know, I'd like to punch the crooks that put these rolls together. Really, it there was ANY chance of that coin being an S-VDB do you think the guy would be selling it just because he's just a nice person? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA All of the "unsearched" crap on ebay is just that....crap.
I have some asphalt in my driveway. It may be the asphalt of my street, or it could be the Brooklyn bridge. Wanna buy it? I will sell it to you at a premium for the miniscule (read: 0%) chance that it is the brooklyn bridge. Catch my drift?
yeah i wish the ebay things were a scam before i bought some but i did manage to find 2 errors not sure if that was intentinally put in or not :/ hmmm
Out of all the rolls i have bought on ebay i have only got one that i think was truly unsearched. And the only reason i say that is because it had 1 3cent piece 12 IHC 1 VDB and the rest were teens and twentys wheat. I dont think the seller would sell a roll with that for 5 or 6 bucks
It's to get you to buy more. Why would there be a 3 cent piece in a cent roll? I can tell by the crimp it it was done by hand and I bet it was.
