I thought this was a good read and it pretty much states what we all know... http://www.bostonherald.com/busines...long_in_pirates_chest/srvc=home&position=also Loved the Manhole cover comment about ikes.
hahaha! I liked the ike comment also. I use them occasionally but what i have really been using is half dollars. Love the faces ppl give me. Especially my girlfriend
I really don't know what the big friggin' deal is. Nobody complains about carrying around a few quarters in their pocket. A couple of dollar coins take up the same amount of space. Frankly I like the convenience of pulling a dollar coin out of my pocket while looking to make exact change for something I purchase. Of course, I get all kinds of weird looks from folks who appear to be thinking that I'm holding up the line. Holding up the line? What about the guy who was just ahead of me who had to swipe his card 5 times because he couldn't enter his pin # correctly.....
cash is soooo much quicker. plus, i've never been declined with cash, but i've seen that happen too many times with plastic.
I use dollar coins in the city (NYC) here all over and no one really blinks or thinks twice about accepting them. They are dispensed in change in the Subway when paying cash in the automated fare machines and the USPS until recently was still dispensing them from stamp vending machines, even had them in the till. If I see then in a cashiers till, I will request them in change. No biggie at all and it's not just because I like and collect coins that I'm willing to carry them or use them. I too can think of a number of times I've seen credit card transactions slow down a check out where as cash just gets things done. Despite TV commercials that suggest credit cards are quicker, it just ain't so! Now waiting for an unattentive waiter to return your change is a pain and generally gets them less TIPS (To Insure Prompt Service), that has nothing to do with cash vs. credit transactions.
I like to carry around and Ike to make change with sometimes, actually makes a lot of cashiers happy and they say so and so collects coins and I'm going to give it to him
Most vending machines are giving dollar coins for change now. I love the coins sometimes I will put a five in the machine and not get anything just so I can have the coins. It is good for trading with my four year old his dad was wanting him to do something for him and offered him a paper dollar. I offered him a gold one. Score one for me he likes the gold ones they are SHINEY!
Oh yeah? How about as they swipe the bill with that stupid pen marker to see if it is real, and then hold it up to the light? and then look at you strangely.
That was a nice satirical piece. Loved the "radical pro-coin activists" part in addition to the Ike comment.
