Thanks for the ideas Bob, I think I'll try a few...I put up a couple to see what happens.

 

Seriously, box searching is all but dead lately. My last 16 boxes have yielded 9 silver halves including 12 shutouts. Today I went to pick up a box and they messed up the order so I did not get one. As I am walking out, I got a call from a teller that said someone just turned in 3 rolls of halves and said one of them had "silver" written on it. I said of course I would be right there. When I walked in sure enough 3 rolls. She showed me the one with "silver" written on it and said one of the other tellers had a few more halves. Of course I was hopeful but figured it was a joke. One roll had nothing on it so I opened it first-nothing. The second roll said "1976-1996, 6 silver" so I dumped it into my hand...sure enough 6 40%'ers. WAHOO..a little bit louder now (haha) The third roll held 2 90%'ers and 18 40%'ers is very good shape. It really blows me away that someone KNOWINGLY sorted the silver and turned in for face, then the teller KNOWINGLY gave it to me for face!!! $8 in loose which contained 6 40%ers.

Anyway, a month of boxes got me 9 silver and 3 minutes with teller got me 32 silver halves...hmm

I am new to the collecting game, but I think nickels are the way to go. In $50 worth of nickels I have found a 1936 buffalo, 5 war nickels and a 1950 that its in amazing shape.(I can still see steps in the monticello) All of this was found in about a week of searching.

someone probably cashed in a family members collection. probably didn't see the writing on it. also there seems to be a lot of people who think there really isn't silver or you can't melt us silver coins. either way, i am glad you got them and they didn't get sent away for who knows how long.

 

got a box of halves and pennies coming tomorrow hopefully, will post my finds... if any

 

This was my best box of dimes ever. I got it maybe a month ago.

23 Rosies and a Merc.

After that I got hit by 8 skunk boxes of dimes in a row.

Last week a teller brought in some dimes that "an old man turned in at face". He said that he told the old man to keep em cause they were worth more than face but he turned em in anyway. The teller gave me $1 in silver dimes. 9 Mercs and 1 1964 Ros. Out of 8 boxes I pulled 11 Rosies and 2 Mercs. So 11 Rosies and 11 Mercs in one week

Yeah, I'm def. laying off halves and doing dimes for a while... Gonna try to get a box tomorrow.

 

Does anyone else here buy 17 or 34 pound bags on Lincoln Wheats from their local coin dealer to search for errors , varieties & oddities?

 

For those of you using TD do you pick up and dump coins at the same branch? Dump into the penny arcade, not deposits etc...

My teller friend is moving west of the city to a different bank where she doesn't think there's any silver-hoarding tellers. Hopefully that produces more silver for me to buy off her.

 

Sweet, I haven't asked my friend to look out for silver, but I might. My cousin at Wachovia told me she hasn't found anything interesting...doesn't mean she doesn't have a stash of silver at her house or something though!

 

I found a 1996 Un Centesimo from Panama in a cent roll yesterday. First coin out of a roll that was not US or Canadian.
