This thread is to good to let die. Again, bad photos but hopefully things w Will get back on course. This poor indian got cleaned or dipped many years ago and was improperly stored, thus the lack of luster and spots.
rlm - I thought we were suppose to match either the date or the series. Not dogs :smile swish - I like your "nickel". What is going on above the ES in States? Is that post mint damage, a die crack or lamination?
That is a 1¢. i.e. series match. FWIW, that coin got the highest grade I have ever seen Doug give. Neither TPG agreed, but he called that a 67.
1870 Indian Cent S-8 This variety has multiple misplaced date digits and the reverse is a minor double die. It is featured on the cover of Rick Snow's Flying Eagle and Indian Cent Attribution Guide 1870-1889 (Vol. 3, 2nd Ed.) and on the cover of K. Flynn's book Two Dates are Better than One - A Collector's Guide to Misplaced Dates.
