I stopped at the liquor Barn on the way home from work in Louisville, KY and the clerk gave me two silver dimes in my change a 46 Roosevelt and a 38 S Mercury dime. I asked if he had more and said yes but couldn't give them to me. So I asked why and he said they were giving out silver dimes as a kind of gimmick to get more customers. So if you are in Louisville KY the Liquor Barn on Hurstboro Parkway is giving silver dimes in change till they are gone. Tim
D@#$ ! Talk about lucky in Kentucky. Race horses, birthplace of Americas best liquor, and now free silver dimes! Whats next, free health care? At $1.32 bullion value, thats $1.22 "free" silver per dime. Actually a pretty smart promotion if you have a bag of junk silver handy, considering the price of radio, tv, and even newspaper marketing. I would drive them nuts, going in there a couple times a day.
That is an interesting gimmick...but it makes me wonder how many people will truly take notice? Either way it's still quite cool.
I don't live that far from L'ville, but considering the gas it'd take to get there, it wouldn't be worth it. Interesting gimmick though.
why can't no places do that around here? and shouldn't they have told you about the free silver? from they way you wrote it, if you didn't ask for more they wouldn't have told you.. i wonder how many people will think nothing of it and put them back into circulation?
It would be nice if coin dealers did this every once in a while. That marketing ploy would definitely get my business. TC
I can think of a few reasons to stop by the Liquor Barn even if they weren't offering silver dimes at face value. Probably a good thing I don't live in Louisville.
My wife would not even notice, neither would my daughter. My son might if it was a Merc. But there are a great number of people who only see a coin and even if it had Silver might just spend it. At best it would end up in a junk jar. That's why it's still possible to get a decent coin in rolls. I mean, if everyone looked, they all would have been snagged years ago.
