I was at a family get together a couple weeks ago when I had the chance to talk to the President of the bank that is in our little town of 500 people. I was talking about coins and asked him if he collected any, and I said how beneficial it would be for him since he would get to look at everything that came into the bank.
He told me he did not collect and had no interest in any of the coins that came through his bank. soon a couple other people joined us and myself and the others that had walked up continued to talk about coins.
The bank president was truelly embarrassed and red faced when his teenage son walked up and heard what we were talking about and said, " dad, are you telling them about your great collection and all the neat coins you have found at the bank!!" Busted!!!!!:hail:

Hahaha. I can see how that might be construed as "conflict of interest" and how he might try and protect that information. But no big deal in my book. Still hilarious:)

I had a similiar situation occurr when I was talking to the manager of the bank I go to every day for my work deposit. I asked him if it was alright if the tellers set aside any older coins for me. He said he could not do that but one of the tellers over heard us and said "oh you are looking for coins like Mike" and yes Mike is the manager. I don't think I have ever seen a grown man look so ashamed, I just nodded and said have a good day.

I wonder if the son got his head bounced off the wall. I can't blame the banker, its no-ones business, but I do like to see the snooty sob's get burned in public...

  6. It is also possible that he just did not want to advertise that he has a valuable coin collection at his home. TC

I was about to say the same thing, TC! You never know who might be listening or what their motives might be.

I had a similar experience at my bank. I asked the teller if she collects and she said "No, but Jane does, she gets all the good stuff". I knew Jane (the VP), so later asked her and she said, "No, she doesn't collect". That could be, that they don't want anyone to know for security reasons, but, I usually take care of the security by mentioning to anyone that finds out I collect, that I don't have much and it's all in a SDB. I wonder if banks typically have policies discouraging employees from collecting.

    hamman88 Spare some change, sir?

You all need to ask yourself "If I worked at a bank, would I do the same?", then maybe you all wouldn't have such sour grapes.

Have any collectors here thought about getting a job as a bank teller? It would suck if you got a job at a bank and on your first day you were told you had to save collectable coins for the manager.
