They look/feel like they have a satin finish. They are also in much better shape then anything other than the newest coins in the rolls. It must just be the better condition but I wanted to check if there were any special cases in 71 before re-rolling them.

Nothing special about 'em, imho. Dump 'em back in.

    8 boxes of halves:

    3-90% ('63 Frankie, '64 Kennedy, '09 silver proof)
    13-40%

Not the worst haul ever, but not the best either.

did around $20 in PENNY rolls, my goal is to find my first error or variety(sp?). found a ton of '99 and '00's, but no WAM's! i don't think i will ever find any. i really want an '88 with '89 reverse as my first, because '88 is my birth year. second is the '95 ddo, and third is a wam or cam. got a few more shields, even though the mint numbers are going to be crazy, i have been saving everyone i get.

got a few rolls of dimes also, still haven't found a silver Roosevelt! i don't even have one for my collection.

i did find my first 2010 dime! so i have found the 2010 cent, nickel, and dime in circulation. still no state park quarters or president dollars.

Panda, pm me your addy and I'll mail you a roosie, haha. I've found 35 or so the past week and a half...

And regarding shields, I must have run across a good 200+ in these two boxes of pennies... 2009's though? Only 7... hard to find.

I just found out my dad has an account with Wachovia... thought he switched to TD. Gonna get him to give me his account # and let me go order the halves from them to look through while I'm down there.

My wife opened two accounts at US Bank this week. I signed on them and when they saw that I was signed on my dad's account, things got interesting. I am going to wait a couple of months and cultivate this branch. I am hoping they will sort the tills for me ? Maybe a box of Krispy Kreme once in a while ? I need time to clean up all my copper first. I have a hundred or so sort cups spread all over my desk.

My recommendation for young folks that still see pretty well is do all of your dime and cent searching now before your eyesight starts to go (like mine).

Haha thanks for the advice. I do want some more dimes. It shall depend on how I do on these halves today!

Find that in a cent roll North? :)

Went through a box of halves last night, no silver, found a 2004 and 2006 though. Also a 2003 that was colorized. American flag behind a painted Kennedy, normally I'd keep a 2003, but probably not this one.

Word ! I am currently working on building a scanner from a web cam that will give a clear image on the monitor. I figure it would be faster to hold it over a coin and adjust the magnification than to use a loupe. If I get one (trouble finding Windows 7 devices) to work, I will pass the info along. Otherwise, I need to pack it in. lol Can't sort coins very well by feel.

i got completely skunked on my second box of halves from Wachovia. I don't even think I'm going to go through them. I only checked edges this time. Almost every roll had at least 1 marked coin. I found one 1977 D that looks like a proof, not sure what it is, maybe I'll post pics.

Maybe I should stick to dimes.

Hey Slamster, I forget, are you closer to Philly or NY? Wachovia told me that some guy around my area used to order $3k in halves every week and go through them, and I know they use their own change distribution system, so I don't even bother with them any more.

It's worse up here. There have been boxes that have had so many marked coins, I can't even get my son to finish opening the rolls. Just because the guy ws ordering 3k per week doesn't mean he was dumping them back into their system also.

In between haha, but probably closer to Philly. I got like 3 1997 with the same green blob over the ear...like deja vu

    He was. They told me.

Yeah, I think me and you are searching the same stashes of halves... hence why I've given them up.

Did those 4 boxes of dimes, btw... 1 silver. Out of 10,000 dimes. 1 silver. FML.

You found the green blobs too Ltrain? What about orange highlighting all of the writing on the obverse not including LIBERTY? It would make sense if we were, unfortunately.

On the plus side, I think the box had $500.50. I took one coin out of the box, counted everything back up, and still had $500. I was thinking I'd be left with 499.50 if anything.
