Hey I got this really nice Civil War Saloon token and I want your professional opinion on what it's worth. So professional, expert or whatever opinion you want to give me if you think you know how much these go for please let me know. I know that ebay and regular coin show prices can be drastically different from each other on numismatic items at times but when it comes to these Civil War tokens it's pretty close. Anyone? Also, there is a crack or a hair on the token can you share your thoughts on that? thnky thnky
Would that be used like a free drink chit, or was it a type of advertising? I have read many books of the period and have not heard any mentions of such tokens, or their use.
Oh man that hurts!!! Oh well, now I know what's wrong with it! Back to the drawing board to find that money making Civil War token cause this ain't gonna do the trick. thx I needed that!
This is a Civil War Storecard, id NY630BM-1a (assuming it is the common large planchet variety). The Indian Head is die # 1010. Rarity rating is R1 (common) with over 5000 known. All of John Schuh's tokens are only listed as being made of copper, but I do have a brass one in my collection. Kanzinger's 2002 book lists values of $12 F/VF, $15 XF, $20 in Unc. I agree that the "crack" looks like a scratch. The good news is that scratches, cleaning, or other problems do not affect cwts nearly as much as for regular coinage. I would say that your token would bring $15-$20 on ebay.
