Did $100 in halves, and just ended up wrapping them back up. Nothing at all, just a 2001 D, but I didn't bother keeping it. I just did a quick search through.

Does anyone use a crimping device? I don't bother with the small coinage, but with halves I like to uncrimp them, save the wrappers, and wrap them back up, because I don't want to take them to a coin counter, and I feel like most banks don't have the half wraps that they can give you. So do any of you use those things they sell to crimp the ends of the rolls or do you just fold them down like me?

Td Bank penny arcade is what I use. :D Dump 'em in, let 'em count, collect cash.

Did a box of halves, nothing to show for it except 3 NIFC.

Just got back from the Dump bank where I've been dumping about 4k per week for the last 3-4 weeks. They were allowing me to bring it in bags at 1k per bag and they were dealing with it. They were supposed to be sending it to the main office who would count it, adjust my account if they got a different # and then ship it off to their supplier (loomis). She told me today that instead of that and to make it easier on everyone, she's just sending it to BoA. The problem is BoA is supplied by Dunbar which is who I'm buying from.....so.....I've been buying and dumping in the same spot AGAIN.

I really need to find a non-Dunbar bank to order from but now I'm thinking this entire state is serviced by Dunbar and Loomis doens't deal in Half dollars.....this is getting frustrating.

    Ltrain,

Have you checked how accurate TD bank is? I dumped a bunch of mixed change there last week. It didn't give me credit for any quarters and there were definitely a few in there. thats the thing that concerns me with the machines

That's why I'm reluctant to put halves in the penny arcade. I mean it seems accurate, I've used it twice and the second time I dumped 2 boxes of pennies, 1 dime box, minus what I kept, and it gave me 284.35 so it was pretty accurate, because I kept a decent amount of copper pennies.

Just went through $400 in halves this morning. A very decent day- 14 40%s and 3 90%s. One of the '64's was immaculate. Can't believe I found it in a roll that also had a '71 that was so corroded I had to scrub it with a toothbrush just to figure out what it was.

Just yesterday the machine jammed on me and told me I was done with another $80 left in the machine. It's best if you ask a teller to open it up if the numbers don't look like they add up. They're usually more than happy to do so for me.
I've actually made money off of other peoples change either jamming or not coming out the reject slot, so I love the Penny Arcade. Just be really friendly with the tellers and ask them if they wouldn't mind opening it up just to be sure. They won't say no, but if they do, just say you're pretty sure it didn't give you full credit for your change.

When I went yesterday, a lady, not a teller financial advisor or something, came up right away and started doing a bunch of things to help the machine work better. Pretty nice. They are definitely useful though.

Agree that you need a dump bank. I buy for cash wherever and whatever they will sell. Then deposit rolled coin back to my checking account. But I quit buying where I dump. It does not make sense to keep searching the same coins. LOL I have accounts at three banks now and soon may have a fourth ? Wells Fargo is good at having a lot of coins. Those that do not seem to carry many boxes will be the dump.

Searched the other 3 boxes of halves. 2 boxes had zero and 1 box had 2 40%ers. Stopped in another bank which had 1 90%er. Man I hit 3 boxes in a row that had a min. of 20 silver about 2 months ago and sence then I've gone through 20 boxes with mabey 6 silver to show. Slim pickins.

    Financeman, there's several ways...

Lack of copper on the reeding on the side, sound when dropped, weight, and the Silver ones usually have a "look" to them.

I went through a roll of US cents a little bit ago (I get a few rolls for spending). Truthfully, I'm not very interested in errors but I do like to look at dates and stuff. From one Wachovia bank roll:

    1959D
    1967
    1968 (2)
    1969D (I think it's a "D" under the crud)
    1971
    1973
    1973D
    1976
    1977
    1979
    1980
    1981
    1982 (2)
    1983 (3)
    1984 (2)
    1987 (3)
    1988
    1989 (3)
    1990
    1991 (2)
    1995
    1996 (3)
    1997D
    1998 (2)
    1999
    2000 (2)
    2001
    2004
    2005 (3)
    2006 (2)
    2007 (2)
    2008

    That should be 50 cents.

What I'd like to know is why does it seem like most of my coinage is Philly mint? I'm in PA. Is there more Denver mint coinage out on the left coast?

i am in pa also(pittsburgh). yes, its because we are closer to the philly mint and out west they are closer to the denver mint. when new coins get shipped, they get shipped from the closest mint. over time coins will travel, thats why you will see some denver coins.

off the top of my head, you can check the 83 for the ddr. you can check the '84 for the dd ear. the '88's for the '89 reverse. the '92 for the cam. the '95 for the ddo. the '98,'99,'00 for the wam.

You got it... proximity to the mint has a HUGE amount to do with what coins you see. I see almost all Philly stuff being right outside of Philly.
