Ltrain, the box was long and thin. Just 10 rows of 5 or 5 rows of 10 something like that. White wrappers with brown stripes at the ends like the yellow ones.

I got at least $20 in halves throughout my travels today, and got nothing. I need CWR, bank rolls, or a box! I have officially ran out of banks on my list.

Last night a neighbor of mine gave me about 30 dollars in rolled pennies (cents) from when he was a kid. The oldest coins showing on the end of the rolls were 1980. We sat there and opened them together for fun and he just said to keep them because he has no interest.

We only found about 10 wheat pennies and a few canadian. A few of the rolls were BU 1980 pennies but there are a bunch of 1959 and 1966 really nice looking coins that we pulled out. Those two dates seem to have the most coins in nice condition. I tried to seperate out everything that was pre-1970 but I really don't know why. He also had rolls of 1968-S to 1970-S coins that after reading a bit I guess would be worth looking for the DDOs or seeing if the 1970s are small dates.

I don't have the motivation to search all of the dates for all of the varieties but since these coins were never searched for anything (at least by him) I figure I should spend at least some time and go through things (RPMs, OMM, DDO etc).

I toss each year mintage into a seperate cup, then look at the varieties list before looking at the coins. Also having a handful of like coins in a tray makes the "funny" looking ones really stand out. It seems the quickest way to go through them. At least for me.

I just blew this up on an HD monitor and it sure looks elevated where a scratch would be indented. An Awesome Crack in my opinion. Good find.

I'm having a pretty successful day so far. Stopped at Wachovia to pick up a box of dimes, and 2 boxes of pennies, and ordered halves for next week. The tellers are starting to understand what I am doing, and I educated them a little bit, and told them to look out for anything good, including silver certs, red seals, and star notes. They seemed surprised when I told them that older half dollars have silver in them.

Opened the dime box and found 4 silver dimes, 1 weird gold colored plastic thing with jesus or something strange on it. -10 cents, and 1 canadian dime. Also got 2 2009, and maybe 5 or 6 2010s.

First box of pennies had about 23 wheaties, 5 canadians, a fake thing that I though was real at first, another piece of plastic -.01 cent, and 1 full roll of 2010 shields that I stupidly opened (I didn't think it would just be the shields) plus another 50 or so shields from the other rolls. Also got a few 2009s, and I am still missing the presidency one, they only one I don't think I've found yet... I may have it some where.

Is anyone still saving the shields? This is the most abundant I've seen them. If the next box is like the first I'll end up with at least 200 of them for the day.

yeah it's definately elevated the biggest die crack i've found so far, although i have found a merc dime with 3 different die cracks so i don't know which one wins :D

as for saving those shields, well i have seen none of them in my penny box or in circulation so i'd save em. :p

Second box had another 20 wheaties, not as many shields as I assumed, only like 20, 5 canadians, something from panama, and some 2009's. Haven't decided if I'm going to go back through for errors yet.

    Oldest wheaties were a 1911, 1918, and 1929.

Awesome box of dimes done! Someone cashed in a small dime hoard. :D

Opened it at the red light leaving the bank, spotted two rolls real quick with 1 silver each. Got home, called my sister downstairs (I'm trying to get her into it) and showed her how to tell what's silver and how to get them out.

    Merc at end of roll.

Nice Ltrain, looks like we both did pretty good with dimes today! I think I like dimes second best so far.

Even with the original photo it seems pretty obvious that it is a die crack , especially if you look at its effect on the letters it is passing through; you can see that it is raised and not (incuse ?).
