The $50 Series 1934C arrived today and a few weeks ago I posted that this would complete my Set of New York 34 C's including Star's.

So I wanted to post them as a group. Finished I say?? Well come to find out, I will never be able to finish this set because of 2 exremly rare star notes and 4known reg issue of the "Narrow variety" $5 notes.
[Schwartz/Lindquist list's these as 2 known stars and 4 known regular issue notes. (9th edition.)]
I am pretty sure they will never make their way to me during my lifetime.
I am not even sure who has them and what sky high price tag that would be on them.

So I will say with 100% certainty that I own a "Short set" and putting these together was as tough a challenge as I have ever had with Small Size Notes.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

What is the variety that is missing, 1934c 5$, narrow and star? Is the narrow just the way they were cut? twere me I would make my own.

Congrats on the set - even if it's short! It's still quite an acomplishment!

Chip.. the narrow variety has 1 less vertical engraving line in the scroll work beneath the number 5 on the lower right of the note. Wish I could make my own..lol that would be something.

Do be aware that this variety is a recent discovery--the 9th edition is the first to list it at all--so the census of known examples is going to be very spotty at this point. While the narrow variety is scarce, it's not *that* scarce--or rather it won't be, once everybody finds out about it and starts checking for it.

    Appreciate that information very much..thanks.
Looking at the PMG populations for these notes, it is rather alarming to see numbers 10 and below for the vast majority of them (stars lower than reg issue). I do not have a PCGS Account anylonger to check populations (wish it were free as well) but it would be interesting to see just how many have been reported. This is a tough Series for Small Size, at least thats how it seemed to me. So when I found out about the new variety well, it pushed the needle into the haystack again so to speak.

If anyone locates a "narrow variety" 34C New York in 64 or higher, please let me know.

    Regards,
