What is the maximum grade for a coin where the date is not readable? According to the ANA Grading Standards book, AG-3 has the date readable. Could you have a G or even VG coin without a readable date? If you cannot read the date on a coin, is it pretty much worthless? Is there any way to determine the date on a coin that is not readable?
well, some coins can be determined by diagnostics like large cents or bust coinage, type I buffalo nickels, type I SLQs, etc, but unless it is an ultra rare coin (i.e. 1916 SLQ) then at best it is a P-1 or FR-2 and carries little to no value.
What he means is that if the coin is made of copper-nickel, acid will eat away the soft metal on the coin from wear and reveal the harder metal underneath (the date). Examples of copper-nickel coins are: - Nickels (Buffs, V's, Jeff's, Shield) - 1959-1964 IH Cents - 1956-1958 FE Cents
If it is a one year type it is gradable. But as mentioned Pr-1 or Fr-2 is about the best grade it can get.
Nail polish remover is actually acetone, not a acid. You should buy a bottle of nic-a-date , try a coin supply store or ebay.
I remember there being some household thing that makes a coin spotless. Anyone know what that supply is?
Then it is catalogued as an ND (not dated) coin and is gradeable to the bottom of the range. Of course ypou pretty much have to go back to medieval times to find coins without dates on them.
Screw up the coin. It should never be used on coins. There is pretty much a limitless number of them, but they will all ruin the coin too.
gotcha !!! i am so evil sometimes ( its only with you so its not that bad ) Ladies gentleman and grandpa i now present some coins with no dates on them most of them are from 2006. now are you saying GD that they will b treated badly and moved to the bottom of the range just because they dont have a date. evil evil TPG's now who here wants to date these coins?
grandpa look at the coins do you see any dates on them? you might recognize the people on them though. i am sure you traveled with them when you were younger. now you are telling us that the TPG will penalize grades for them. that is so rediculous
