Hello everyone, I am a bust half collector and I have a bunch. I have been using 2"x2" cardboard holders and would like to get them in some plastic but I cant find plastic or airtite holders that fit the unique size of the bust half series. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve
If you dont want them professionally graded then "Con World Slabs" have one. I have a large size bust half and they made one for that size and it works perfectly. http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=coin+world+slabs
Thanks Guys, I have 130 of them and I want to order that many holders, but am afraid the coins will rattle in the holders. Mat thanks for the link Im going to scope them out as well. Steve
They won't rattle in the ring type holder. Not sure about the direct fit - simply because they are not exactly all the same size.
I was just looking through the Don Parsley US Early Halfs book and cant find a diameter for them, I think you hit the nail on the head Mark... Steve
Should be about 32.5mm per red book, but with the ring type airtites I get 32mm. At least that is what it says on JP corners website.
Mark, Treshunt will get a charge out of this, the Redbook has the diameter... I have to eat some crow now thank you very much. I need a big spoon. Steve
Chip, Maybe Im going over the top, but I dont want to hear any rattle, I take them in and out of a safe to recheck attributes, when I have the energy, working to much, and dont want any friction at all if possible. I will be following Marks Airtite plan I think. I just dont like round holders but if thats what works... Steve
Then the coin world holders may be your best bet. There a bit expensive but work well & on a side there is a notch that lets you open them petty easily. Much easier then air-tites, those are brutal lol.
Mat, Your right the airtights are brutal. I have purchased more then a few morgans and pretty much have to use my sharpest knife to pry the edge... I collect switchblades to. Talk about hard to find... Steve
Haha yeah I have to use a box cutter to open my air-tites. They work well in general though but not for odd shaped coins.
Steve. You may want to check this website out. http://www.mmnscoin.com/ and take a look at the Halo Holder.. I loaned Bob a few of my BHD's to slab and he has been using at them major shows. Looks SWEAT! It shows the third side of the coin.
Jim, They are very nice yes indeed. The whole option of being able to still see the edge is premium. Thanks, Steve
The Redbook has the "Official" diameter, but since these coins were struck in an open collar that did not restrain the expansion of the planchet, they can vary from 31.5 to 33 mm. the actual diameter depends on the strength of the strike and the annealing of the planchet.
Conder101, I guess this really brings me back around to the Airtites then because they have the soft round insert that holds the coin, and hopefully will self adjust to size. I just dont like round. I like to keep them in the whitman plastic boxes for 2"x2" holders. Unless of course airtite has some system. Steve
