Whats the deal with clipped coins?

Im finding a lot of double clipped presidential dollar coins lately.
Was wondering just how much of the collar needs to be clipped to have a grading co. Label it as such? Sometimes the clip isnt much, but its always apparent that it is indeed clipped. Id hate to send these coins out for grading and have them tell me the clips arent big enough or some bs.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

unless the coin is something special a clip will not add enough value to make it worth slabbing

Error Trends Coin Magazine has 2 prices for clipped planchets; Washington $300, & Adams $350. How accurate this is, I don't know, but I wouldn't be spending them to quick...

Post some pics so we can see what you're talking about. Right now I agree with ziggy9's assessment.

It is not the collar that is clipped. It is the blank itself that is clipped during the blanking process. The collar is the third die that restrains the planchet during striking and produces the smooth or reeded edge.

Thanks Hobo...Ive been trying to find out how to spot a partial collar. I sent this recently sent a coin in for grading not knowing about partial collars, I only noticed the missing edge lettering, and it had both errors. I seen a picture of another partial collared coin and I still dont see any similarities.
I wish I knew how to spot a partial collar
As far as clipped coins go....Ive seen a few sell on ebay, graded. Its obviously a common error,,but still an error none the less. I still get a little excited when I find one.
I dont have a scanner or a decent camera so I cant take pictures yet
I was just wondering if grading companys would acknowledge the error...no matter how small a clip..or double clip...because a few of my clips are very small

The top 4 grading services will note errors on the inserts but you must specifically request it and they charge an extra fee for that service.
