Absolute gorgeous set of Buffalo proofs. Hold on to those babies. I'll have to attempt them again. Love your 26-D pickup.
Robec (Bob), Thanks for the nice words. I still haven't found a 1916 in PR67 that I liked. That is a tough date. I think I saw your 37 Satin for sale and was tempted. Did you sell your set to a dealer? I assume it wasn't by auction because I think I would have seen that nice of a set. Good luck building it back up.:smile :smile
I had to take a look at your MS set http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/alltimeset.aspx?s=60453 Congratulations on what you have. It is a stunning set so far. I don't know which is my favorite, maybe the 1913 T-2. But there are a few that are close to it.
Andy of Angel Dee's was the middle man, although I later saw a few sold on a Heritage auction and a couple on the Legend site. I think Andy had the '37 Satin on his site for awhile. I had a tough time watching the set getting pieced out. I picked up the 1916 first to get the toughie out of the way. It, along with the 1913 T-1 were my two favorites.
Bob, Andy is a fine dealer and has some beautiful Buffalo's, though he can be tough on prices. I have bought a few from him. I also purchased two of my proofs from Legend but checking your photos, I don't think I own any that used to be yours. Thanks for the compliments on my MS set -- it has been a long process (over three years now) and I am trying to be patient as I go for the remaining ones, most of which are the difficult dates, like the San Francisco coins from the 20's. Jeff
Normally I do the uploads and editing on my desktop. On this upload I'm workin' on the daughters laptop. Had to resize the image using the photoscape software. Usually I use a "power toy" re-sizer on the desktop.
Great photo Ken, it is very sharp!! I've always loved the Gold Buffaloes, still, always, regretting not getting the $5 the day they went on sale in 08'... STUPID STUPID STUPID! They are and have been going in that $500-$600 range, and don't even get me started on the MS70 FIRST STRIKES by PCGS...That is a coin that is going over $1000. All for 1/10 of gold! CRAZY!
This is probably the best one I have just because of its rainbow toning, which unfortunately doesn't really show up in the pics.
I have 2 of those flexi neck desk lamps on each side but they are smaller types and the bulbs are only 25W each. I had checked out some differents posts about coin photography and just tried to improvise with what I have around here.
All of my photos are taken with 20W Halogen Lamps. Keep trying, put those lights on the coin at preferably the ten and two o clock positions. Try not to make a shadow over the coin with the camera either.
Here is one of 2 I found in circulation. It has been years - many years - since I have seen a Buffalo in circulation. However, they used to be common.
Couldn't find any Halogen lamps but found another, larger, desk lamp, put the 2 weak ones at 10 and the larger one which has a 13W CFL bulb at 2 and put pieces of white paper between them and the coin and put the coin on a black surface and it seemed to help. Thanks for the advice.
