Does anyone know why the Proof quarters are more expensive from usmint.gov than they are at ebay? How do these people who are selling them get them?
They get them from the mint, or a coin dealer. You have got to understand, once somebody looks at the coins and determines that they will NOT grade high, they sell them at a loss just to get rid of the things.
Oh, well that is good for people like me. When I buy my proof sets from ebay, do I need to make sure they include the CoA? Or is there not a need? I think that if it has the mintmark S, it is proof. And i can determine if it is silver proof accordning to the weight.
Proving that the coin is a proof or that it came from the SF Mint has nothing to do with it. Many collectors prefer to have the COA & OGP because it is part of the provenance. By the way, not all proofs were struck in SF, and not all coins struck in SF are proofs. Chris
I'm beginning to wonder since all the proof eagles have been suspended and there was no 2009 proof silver eagles, if I understand correctly. Ruben
The Mint is under no legal obligation to make the Proof SAE's. They are only required to produce an uncirculated bullion coin. I'm not sure about the Proof Sets for the regular issues. Chris
Here's a link to the US Mint's subscription page. The 2010 silver proof set is listed. http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&identifier=SUBS
The 2010 silver proof ATB are gorgeous. They were available early on, and it's true, some dealers buy multiple sets for grading coins, and the rest become "loss leaders" (products the businesses sell at a loss just to get customers in the door). Ampex will surely start selling the five ounce ingots soon, so I am waiting with abated breath. Gonna be neat to have those.
